Question on muzzle loader bore

That has happened. About 2 years ago a young 20 something kid was shooting out in the desert near Phoenix ( not sure if it was a muzzle loader) and he started a pretty big fire that burned several thousand acres. The last i heard ,he had been criminally charged and was held liable for the damages.

I always shoot at a managed range and i'm pretty sure the range officers wouldn't take kindly to flaming wads of toilet paper flying out of my barrel.

Oh ye of little faith...

You don't have to use a big wad. A couple of layers does the job. And it becomes confetti, not a tracer.

...Like the gout of flame and sparks by itself is not a fire hazard...

You say wad I think something strong enough to survive the trip down the barrel like the cloth & felt ones do :)

I envision a flaming ball of TP landing in the bone dry grass that covers the range this time of year. There is a very good reason I always bring a fire extinguisher with me.

It's a wise shooter who prevents problems. I know there are parts of the country where it would be inadvisable to smoke a cigarette, much less touch off a muzzleloader.

I have never seen it get that dry in Missouri, which is where I shoot.

Do what you think is best, but since you have a fire extinguisher available, you might experiment and see if some extra separation between powder charge and the ball patch gives you a smaller group.

Perhaps wads cut from egg cartons, soaked in parafin. Or ...... That's one of the great things about muzzleloading. All the different options.
