so while cleaning today I kept finding brushes and rods and half used bottles of oil and solvent laying around so i started making a pile. Going to find a tool box/ tackle box to organize this stuff better. My questions are how or how would u go about filling a tackle box for cleaning kit/range bag. I go though a lot of different guns in all sorts of calibers including bp. What do you like to keep on hand? Where do you order your brushes I keep needing more and more of them. thanks for any reply kind of in a rush but wanted to ask before I head out tonight.

I would organize my brushes/jags by caliber on the top level; you could write the caliber(s) on the inside backend of the compartment and/or on the lid over the compartment. Even a small bottle of solvent, etc. is going to be as big or bigger than most compartments in a tackle box (aren't they?). I guess you could put the large bottles in the bottom. You will need take-down cleaning rods.

For my range bag, I keep a bottle of CLP (in a ziplock baggie), a half dozen shop towels, a 22cal boresnake, a 30 cal boresnake, a combo screwdriver, needlenose pliers, and a couple specialized adjustment tools for my FAL, ARs, SKS, and AKs.

For the possible freak 'bullet in the barrel' or other obstruction, I keep a 36" piece of brass rod in the vehicle.

Ranges are for shooting, homes are for cleaning. A rod to remove squibs or stuck cases is all that is needed for range trips.

My range bag has a philosophy a lot like Matt's ^^^. Although i do take a bottle of break free just in case something needs a little lube.

^^^ ???????????

That's what spit is for! That's at least 3-5 rounds of ammo you're shorting yourself Leafy!

I've done the all day range thing now and then where 300-500 rounds go through a gun. While taking a break, I'll lube up the bolt/carrier and run a bore snake through the bore.

In two different times, I've also had an SKS and a FAL stop cycling due to crud building up in the gas tube. I was glad I had some CLP and tools with me then.

Oddly, I've never had a jammed case where I needed a rod to knock it out. Watch, now it will happen next time I go.
