CMP 1911 Sales Reopen

Not what makes a 1911 worth high dollars, I get that, but what makes that specific one in the link I posted worth $7k

From reading the description of the one you linked to it was built in 1937 and does NOT even have the original matching slide. I personally don't see why that one is at $7,000 except for people getting into a bidding war.

IMG_0551.JPG If you want one of these you should buy one. There like the Garand's in that when they're gone they're gone. I hemmed and hawed and bought two Garand's from CMP and I'm glad I did. Both were in better shape for $650.00 and $750.00 than the ones at gun show's going for $2000.00. These antique Colt's will be the same.

I know. They buy the cheapest grade or parts guns and unload them at shows.

I was under the impression, at the time of the first sale, that anyone who didn't get one would hold their place in line if there was ever a second round. I don't know if that's correct, but it seemed at the time that it was. You may want to send them an email and ask.

I just seem to recall that my number was in the mid 7000s, out of only 8k possible sales, and numbers 8k and above would have to wait.

From what I've read on the CMP1911 Forum, all 19,000 or so people that submitted applications received or were at least offered a USGI 1911. CMP received several more shipments with no report given and were able to continue the 1911 sales. Now that everyone from the first round has been offered, they could open up a second round.

FWIW I could not be happier with the Colt/Ithaca 1911 I received from CMP. These pistols are not being built by CMP, they are serviceable 1911s from USGI/Army storage. I would think the second batch will contain more rack grade guns as the Army gets deeper into their stockpiles of small arms. I assume at some point the Army stopped sending batches for arsenal rebuild and just tagged them F grade and they went into a box. But what do I know?

Got my RR 1911 yesterday. They seem to be working crate to crate, last week they only had Field and Rack but this week they have Field and Service grades.
I was really hesitant about spending that kind of money on a pistol of unknown quality but I couldn't be more pleased.
Late war RR slide and reciever, period correct Flannery barrel and while not a set the grips are Korean war era Keyes.
The action is buttery smooth and if not for an ugly scribe on the receiver which I assume is the date it went out of service I'd rate the appearance as very good. 20210617_213321.jpg

Sweet, you're one lucky dog to have scored one. :) That old warhorse is itching to hit the range! If you do let us know how it shoots for you .

Stay safe.

Thanks, I feel like buying a lottery ticket to see if my lucks still holding. Hopefully I can get out this weekend and stretch its legs.

I’m happy with my service grade. I was one of the first to get one during the first round. 1943 Colt frame, Mid 50’s Colt slide. Gun is very tight.

A GI clone is going for $600. $400 more for a gun that was issued to and carried by American GI is worth it to me. All steel versus plus and MIM parts? Not even a debate.
