CMP Accepting M1 Garand orders

They were supposed to make an announcement on Friday but it came today:

Someone said they heard there were in excess of 100,000 of them but the CMP guy has not confirmed this yet. He had said some months ago there would be no more coming from the Army but apparently this has changed.

IIRC, you can only order 7 per years, and there is a limit for each grade.

Never the less, this is good news. I missed out on the $375 Danish returns, but this is still better than buying a commercial M1. The receiver itself is practically worth the price. Looks like new standard grade barrels are availble from Wilson for about $200.

This is great, I had bought a Danish return and the barrel is shot out and the gas tube fits so loose the front sight moves side to side. Now maybe I can get a shooter. Although, I wonder how much longer the CMP ammo will be available.

I have no idea what IIRC means but the Operating Officer of the CMP said today that the limit is 12. That's what it was last time they had Garands not long ago. The previous limit was 8.

Prices are higher these days. I bought a field grade three years ago for $500 but $595 is still a great price compared to current market prices.

Well, I thought my Saiga .308 was the last one I would get before going off to grad school.....boy was I wrong. I'll be sending off the paper work tomorrow. It'll be tough scraping up the cash for this one but I'd rather not miss out on this.

Nope. CMP can and will ship directly to your home, via FedEx.

Well, back in the day, I used to preach what a great investment these were (I would never sell one), when that wore thin I spoke of the need to preserve such a piece of history (she was'nt that patriotic) when that stopped working, I explained that since I did'nt play golf or softball anymore, I REALLY needed another hobby .

But these days, things are a bit different. I elected myself CEO, and fired the Finance Director. All purchases are much easier these days.

Last I heard they have millions of rounds in stock, enough to last a several years at least. Some people look at the requirements to buy from CMP and don't want to bother. Not that the requirements are that hard to meet but they figure it's a hassle. More for us.
