CMP Garand price increases

I've been planning to get an 03A3 in November when I'm at the CMP Games @ Camp Pendleton. Not sure if I should just get another Garand and push back the 03A3. Granted, at this point, acquiring more Garands is more of a collecting standpoint for me right now, since I have plenty to shoot right now, not to mention the 6mil SA receiver I have.

These prices are still cheaper than they were 6 months ago. Remember that they lowered them in April. That said, I do need another. I got one Tuesday and it had the worst smelling sling I have ever smelled. I can't bring it into the house it is so bad. In April Rack Grades were $400 and there were no Field Grades.

and i still have 3 years until i can buy one. :cuss: :banghead:

I already have a service grade and a second hand one. Much as I would like to get a rack grade beater, I have other priorities right now. :)

I used to want a Garand.

Then I fired one and completely changed my mind. I guess they really aren't for everyone!

Even with the price hike, I feel that the price is cheap if you consider the price of something like that made currently. The same goes for many of the other surplus weapons. These guns would cost an arm and a leg for such quality craftsmanship. Try to break down a door with most of today's rifles (I am not actually serious about trying it, and I know it is not really designed for that-just an example), how well would an AR hold up to the same treatment? Think about the swiss K-31, or even a yugo SKS new in wrapper for such a low cost. Imagine what Ruger, Bushmaster or Remington would sell these guns for now. I only have one M1, but it came from the CMP for 500$. A service grade USGI Springfield 1944 original barrel on reciever with a beautiful stock. If I get another M1 it will be from the CMP.
