CMP carbines driving up prices for accesories?

Maybe it's just me, but not so long ago I was picking up GI "10 round" magazines fairly cheap on E-vil-bay. Since the CMP announcement, I've noticed a drastic spike in prices. Has anyone else noticed price fluctuations from other distributors?

Yup just got 8 USGI mags plus the original canvas magazine pouches for 122 off ebay. All 10 rounders DAMN CALIFORNIA!!. Midway is selling pro mags for something like 11.99 or 12 bucks there are manufacturers that are selling them for 29 bucks but the darn things better be goldplated followers for that price. But you are definetly correct in your assesment the prices have gone up significantly as have the supplies. This is why I buy stuff for guns I do not own....yet.

Yup, increased demand due to the surge of carbines from CMP makes those accessories worth a little more. I have found the supply of USGI mags to be almost nonexistent around here.

Cane, E-vil-bay has a policy against anything over 10. But I'll be darned if every one I've ordered isn't defective and holds an extra five rounds.

Sounds like me. Bought an even half dozen USGI 15 round mags (brand new, still in the waxed cheesecloth wrap) at the first gun show I attended after the CMP announcement. Those, and 1k rounds of ammo, are still sitting patiently at home awaiting the arrival of my carbine.

I was late getting in on the Inland sale, and thought I'd missed out, but just last Friday I received an e-mail that my order is being processed. Their latest newsletter says they expect all Inlands to ship by the end of July. So there's hope for me yet.

When CMP announced the carbine sale (back in what was it, Jan, Feb?), I picked up 20 USGI mags for $7 each, slightly used but in great shape. I think the NIW mags were $10 each. Prices skyrocketed quickly after that. I waited on the ammo, but that didn't seem to go up in price any more than any other ammo.

There aren't.
I have seen 5 and 10 round magazines that were cut down GI 30 round magazines. The quality ranged from crude to factory original looking.

The give away was the follower is the 30 round mag follower that holds the bolt back after the last round is fired.


Before the AWB ban, new in the wrapper GI 15 round mags sold for 50 cents or three for a dollar.
I lost I don't know how many in a fire.


BTW, do not have these parts in your M1 Carbine spare parts box. It's the M2 Disconnecter and Selector Switch. Many M1 Carbines, including the civilian clones, have M2 parts installed. It's very possible that if you are in possession of the Disconnecter and Selector Switch that you can be in possession of an illegal machine gun.
The Disconnecter and Switch have no function in a M1 Carbine, so unless you have a licensed M2 you have no reason to have these parts.

Last fall, before the CMP carbines were announced, but the rumor mill was hard at work, I picked up a box full of Carbine mags, 5 - 30 round, 9 - 15 round, from a local gun store for $85 out the door.

They were glad to be rid of them. They said they had been brought in by an older guy that sold his carbine and had a bunch of extra GI mags he'd accmulated over the years. They sat there for five years.

A little surface rust, but nothing I wasn't able to clean away.

I'm cleaning and oiling the stock on my CMP Carbine now. It's ina lot bettrer shape than I expected it to be in. 90%+ metal and solid wood with a scratch and nick here and there to prove it saw action somewhere.

I'd still like to pick up a bayonet for it, but no hurry.
