A buddy and I are planning a trip up to Port Clinton, OH to check out the CMP North Store. It's only a 2.5 hour drive for us so it sure beats waiting a month or two for a mail order! Anyways, I've got my mind set on getting a Garand or possibly a Carbine if I find one in my budget. I was just wondering if anyone else on here has been to the CMP North Store and what I should set my expectations to in terms of inventory and prices.

Expect that the supply of Garands (and especially the Carbines) is dwindling down to the last of the last (I think they have been selling them since the early 1960's). If you find a nice one, buy it. It might be a good one that got lost in the system, and is now just turning up.

They should still have some really nice Garands. Carbines, wouldn't bet there are any. Just to see the store is worth the trip.

Carbines are long gone. Suggest you give them a call and make sure they have Service Grade Garands in stock before you go. Also, be sure you have all your paperwork filled out properly to take with you. It's a trip you will remember your whole life.

All my Garands were purchased from private sellers in gun forums. Im lucky i got some excellent conditions at reasonable prices. They are the cream of the crop in terms of gun collections.

You can probably expect to find some really nice Field Grades. Not sure if they have SG rifles in store. It is an experience, that is for sure. Enjoy.

Go over to the CMP forums. Guys usually post store reports. That should give you an idea about what they have in stock.

Thanks for the help. Really excited to pick up a Garand, it has been the rifle I've dreamed of having since I was 10 or so. Also Greek ammo seems to be running about 100 bucks per 200 round case so I will definitely pick some of that up. I'm really digging these forums.

you should expect for it to be a great trip that will turn out to be one of your fondest memories. at least thats the way it turned out for me and my brother.

right up there with the other fondest memories in my life. here are a few it compares to.

my dad teaching me to handle and shoot firearms when i was very young!!!
winning my first motocross race!!!
my first girlfriend!!!
winning my 2nd motocross race!!!
getting married (all 3 times)!!!
the birth of my son!!!
watching him grow into a fine young man and graduate and get a great job!!!
getting divorced (all 3 times)!!!
and driving from texas to alabama for 2 brand new looking 70 year old m1 garands with my bro!!!

seriously, its right up there with the other wonderful moments in my life.

All my paperwork is in line, but we aren't going up for about another month so we can save up a bit. We're hitting the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot so our wallets are going to need all the recuperation time they can get!
