Howdy, folks. Okay. People reccomend CMP. Civillian Marksmanship Program. I talked with my old CO just before I left the Command and he told me that when I deploy to start looking at CMP Garands for when I get back. Everyone on THR says get a CMP. Folks: I'll be honest. I've heard a lot about CMP but I don't spend a lot of time on the internet. I lurk on THR, browse gunbroker, check my email and follow links/google stuff I see on THR. What do I have to do to get a CMP weapon if they offer one?

If this is overdone on THR please feel free to shoot me a link.

Thanks.

**ETA** I just googled CMP and I'm sitting on the FAQ. It's answering a lot of my questions. Mods if this thread is overdone, feel free to lock it. If not, the link for FAQ is here. Sorry to waste bandwith.

**ETA X2** Mods you can, if you want to, delete this thread all together.

http://odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/eligibility_requirements.htm

Lists the rquirements. Click homepage and go to sales to see what's available. You indicate you're in the military so you need to send them:

1. Proof of citizenship (birth certificate, passport, citizenship papers), if you're an officer that already proves cirizenship,

2. Military ID card shows proof marksmanship training and club affliation (active, reserves, national guard, retired).

3. A copy of your firearms id card if one is required by your state of residence (where you are stationed or will have the rifle shipped).

4. Elgibility form download and fill out from website, it has to be notarized. If you are overseas and there is no notary available any commissioned officer can act as one signing with name, rank, branch, service, and date of commission. If they aren't aware of this don't be surprised, I was a lieutenant colonel before I discovered this.

No M1s available now. You need to keep checking on odcmp.com

PS Buy the best one you can afford. the servioce grade gives the best value for the money.

Yeah, you are probably about 6 months or a year late, but they are expected to have more Garands next Fall and more carbines as well. Keep looking.

of the limited quantity, a purchase limit of 1 rifle per customer will
be in effect for this sale. We will also have a small quantity of
National Match and M1D Garands available at the CMP North Store beginning
28 July. A limit of one per customer for these models will also be in
effect.

LC .30-06 SELLING OUT QUICKLY. Lake City .30-06 ammunition is no
longer available by the case for mail order. Some cases are still available
for purchase and pickup at the North Store. We expect that this email
will generate a flood of Estore orders this weekend - resulting in our
selling out of the remaining hundreds of cans of LC still in inventory
before 4 July. HXP .30-06 will last for several years.

CARBINE UPDATE. As of 3:00 PM Friday, 29 June 2007, we are shipping
carbines for orders received on 4 May and processing orders received on 8
May. We expect to have all Inland carbine orders shipped by 31 July.

SOUTH STORE CLOSED. A reminder that the CMP South store in Anniston AL
will be closed 22 July, 2007 through 8 August, 2007. Many of the CMP
South staff will be at Camp Perry supporting the National Matches.

EMAILS TO CMP. To improve response time for emails being sent to the
CMP, please include the email thread (previous emails - if any). Work
assignments at CMP are rotated almost daily based on staff availability
and having the complete thread reduces research time. The CMP staff
thanks you for this consideration. Please note that emails with no subject
in the subject line are filtered out as spam.

Thank you for your support of the CMP.

Like Grizz22 said, being current (or former, I suppose) military smooths out a lot of wrinkles for you. When I got my first Garand from them all I needed was military ID and a passport (proof of citizenship -- if you're an officer and a gentleman all you need is the ID, unlike us poor enlisted folks).
