A page on Fulton Armory's web site says that the stress relief was cut in the op rod post WWII. Existing rods used in rebuilds were cut and all new production post WWII were made with the cut.

Walt Kuleck and Clint McKee are pretty knowledgable on Garands.

Scott Duff's is one of the main authorities on Garands.
That was my thinking. Now how many rounds were fired during WWII causing severe injury? My read was the modifications followed WWII.

The upper rifle is one I used as part of an NRA course maybe 30 years ago. It's a WWII issue flavor but has several modifications including the NM sights. The lower rifle is a Korean era rifle with a GI stock known as the "orange wood" actually birch.

Given a receiver I could build another one. I have a .308 barrel laying here new I bought during the early 90s. :) The upper rifle I chambered in 7mm-08 Remington. I ordered two .308 barrels from Brownell's and they sent two 7-08 barrels which arrived a day before I was leaving for the course. Maybe once the barrel needs replaced I'll put the 308 chambered barrel on the rifle. The lower rifle is a 30-06 chambering. The last few years I have spent more time shooting my M1A than either Garand and the 7-08 is really a pleasure to shoot. Not elegible for anything as issued but fun to shoot.

Looks like this...
And is the Bbl. by any chance an LMR?

Looks like a Standard SA Barrel to me, but I'm still learning:

I do not see the Triangle, but it looks like there is some sort of stamp. I might have to clean it up to be sure of whether the triangle is present.

I think the sans-serif no-circle P is correct for a LEAD though.

Looks like a a standard Springfield Armory 9th month of 51 barrel. The "P" stamp is a standard Pass stamp on the stock. The standard post WWII DOD Cartouche should be a 1/2 inch box square with three stars and an eagle below the stars. The box should be on the left side and look close to this:

My example is a little faded. HRA stocks also used a 3/8" box really small and I am not sure all HRA stocks used the small cartouche.

Definitely no stamp on the left side.

It's just an ink stamp, so was probably sanded off when it was racked.

Other than that, Std. SA Bbl'ed birch stock LEAD rebuild.

Should be a good shooter.
