P5 guy, did your greek M1s have all the cartouches gouged out? my M1 I got had the cartouches defaced and the only explanation Iv'e heard is that it may have been a loaner to greece and they might have done it. any truth to it?

No but they were sanded pretty hard. I heard of some that had initials or names carved into them.

Hacker I wish also that I had been able to buy my limit. I had a great time cleaning up those three. I think each had a grease gun applied to the muzzle and they pumped until the bolt popped open.

Flash-You got a great looking rifle there, with a very nice walnut stock to boot.

As for the Greek Rackers that were mentioned, I picked up a few of them also. They were quite a deal...clean out the black goo from the bore and the axle grease from the exterior and many of them looked dang near new. The HRA in this pick was one of that bunch.

AZ muth... I hate you lol, I have never even seen an international harvester but I wish I owned one. who provided barrels for those?

Don't hate me too much, the IHC is a rebuild with a SA barrel. Almost all IHC's came new with an LMR (Line Material Company) barrel out of Alabama. The IHC's in correct/original condition are way too pricey for me, and they seem to go up in price on a daily basis.

Scout scope on Garand

Baz,
I need the same type of scope mount for the same reason.
I'm old, my Garand is a tanker (.308) - so its authenticity is speculative to begin with - and I love shooting it.
But I'd like to go back to hitting my targets.
Which mount so you have?
What are the options?
The only one I know of is the B-Square.

Flash! Hope you count your blessings. Your Service Grade numbers exactly match those of my Service Grade Special, and you might have much more shooter value for your money.
Selected my latest Saturday Aug 31st in person over in Anniston. I had never even considered a price higher than a regular Service Grade.

The only reason for this new thinking was to finally have a nice Garand selected in person.
They had no Service Grades, and considering the various factors increasing demand (although the CMP is exempt from the new Pres. Exec. Order), will the CMP stores Ever Again catch up enough to have any Service Grades on the racks?
Two Anniston staff ladies told me "We are 5,000 M-1s behind because of ammo orders".

Possibly sometime shortly after November 4, 2014.:)

CMP .308 Special - all SA components as far as I have taken it apart. Receiver is from 1952 and it's officially my favorite rifle.

USSR. I see the humour in your ironic comment. Or is that date just a unique coincidence?;)

By late '14, the CMP could be much more than "5,000 M-1s behind", if the many factors I see soon start to become noticed by many potential buyers.
