Does anyone have any sources knowing when CMP will be getting more USGI service grade Garands?

I really want one and dont want to settle for the rack grade and might consider the field grade if i dont see any hope with the service grade. Any info would be much apprieciated :D

You should really ask this question on the CMP forum where authoritative CMP reps can answer you.

That said, it was stated that the CMP will probably never offer Service Grade USGI ever again.

Two weeks back, the guy at the North store told me there was a 700 US Service grade backorder that most likely wouldn't be filled. Seems that too many service grades went out as racks.

In other news, the rumors about the NIW Garands is true, so who needs service grade :p

If I were you, order a Greek Service while you have the chance. If US ever open back up, you can always order another and sell the Greek.

Or, Central Jersey isn't too far of a drive to Ohio, you can handpick a field or rack or service grade at the North store

Well, not exactly in wrapper, they were taken out for record keeping purposes, but the wrappers were shoved back in the shipping crates with the rifles, and the rifles were obviously never issued. Real chance to own a collectible. Gonna be auctioned off, expected selling price is $5000-8000

Where is the auction going to be, on the CMP site?

And I would appreciate a link that anyone might have to the source of this information.

Thanks.

If you watched the History Channel segment on the US Army historical depot, they actually showed off crates full of unissued Garands, Carbines, BARs, 1911s, Thompsons, and what not. This stuff exists in the US Army inventory. Whether or not some have been given to the DCM/CMP over the years and whether or not they (the non-class 3 stuff, at least) will be given to the CMP in the future remains to be seen.

$X000??!! :what:

Tha's alright. I am a shooter, not a collector so I'll make do with a Field Grade and some replacement parts. Beer budget, you know.

I was at CMP in Anniston last month and they have approx 150,000 Garands. Ought to be one in there that you would like. I saw one fine example that appeared to be as new.

That place is awesome. If I could ahve a 5 minuet grab and run of stuff in that place, I could be quite happy (as would the ammo companies).

However, that is kinda like saying they would start selling stuff off from the Smithsonian. Probably won't happen.

These two were racks. Both have bright shiny bores that gauge a 3 1/2. I had them reparked and new wood added.
