CMP Greek M1s

I'm going up to the CMP store this weekend and will take a look at them, if they have any. I think I'll still go with a SA as my first, though. :)

Wish I lived close enough to do the same. HRA and SA in service grade $450, rack grade same makes at $295. Can't see buying a HRA stripped reciver for $20 bucks less than the RG greeks.

Kalos,

I'm planning to head up to the Ohio store sometime this month. What is the best way to do the paperwork......send it beforehand or take it with me?

I have my identification put together, proof of marksmanship activities too. If I do the application to purchase, I can do it on site and have it notarized there, right?

I've not been there before, so I can't say for sure. I'm planning on taking mine up with me; I've got it all paperclipped together upstairs. As to the notary--I work in an office where almost everyone's a notary, so I got that done beforehand as well, but I've also heard that they should have a notary up there if you need one.

At any rate, I will do my best to remember to ask about these things, and give a full report when I get back home tomorrow. :)

Excellent! I'd appreciate you running an advance action for me so that I don't drive all of the way from MD only to be told I screwed up.....

Well, I went up there today... and came back empty handed. Of all the lousy times to come up with a 'delay' on NICS... my first ever, no less. So it looks like I'll be going up there next weekend too!

First of all, though, they haven't got any of the Greek M1s yet, so I can't comment on them.

Second, so far as forms go--just take your documents (birth certificate, proof of firearms activity, club membership card). I went up there with an order form printed out from their website and was told that they didn't need them--they've got their own forms at the store, and the lady who works the counter is a notary.

Are you -sure- you can come from MD, though? I had thought (and I have only the very faintest grasp of federal/state firearms law; enough to know that most everything is regulated, though!) that there was some law about that. I meant to ask, but under the circumstances, I kinda forgot.

I'll do some checking regarding the legality thing....but it seems that if they can FedEx it to your door, you should be able to pick it up. Guess I'll call the MD State Police......

Kalos....if you go next weekend, can you check on out of state in store sales from CMP's end? I've been trying to get ahold of them via email and phone with no success....

Presumably I will be going weekend next--I've got no idea what caused this delay. I know I'm clean of all the things on the yellow form/notary sheet (in this case). But yes, I will ask. It makes sense to me as well that they ought to be able to sell you the same thing OTC as they can ship to your door--but we all know that 'making sense' and the government do not necessarily go hand in hand.

Thanks for checking that out......you're darned right about the law and common sense being mutually exclusive, especially for those of us in MD

So are the rack grade guns generally worth having? The CMP description sounds a bit alarming on them. At $295, I am sorely tempted.

GR

Maybe, maybe not. The one I picked was a Service grade, but one of the gents that works up there was talking about them. He said that some were nothing worse than a dirty bore--you just have to get in there with rods (which they have) and clean them out. I'm not sure I'd order one unless I was planning to rebarrel it, but if you go there in person and are willing to take the time to really go through them, you might just find a gem.
