Does CMP send the rifles right to your house? I didn't think they could but I see no spot on the order forms for FFL information. This will be the first time I have ordered a gun without just having my local FFL holder order it.

Basically, "YES" is the answer.

Rancid Sumo--When you order from CMP, they send it directly to you at home. Be it ammo, be it a rifle, makes no difference. Somehow, coming from CMP, you are trusted to receive it and deal with it responsibly, wheras if sent to you from anywhere else, it has to go through through an FFL; you are not competent to receive it yourself.

Unless you are an FFL holder yourself.

May have to do with the fact that you have to submit all that documentation to the CMP when first ordering from them, but it still strikes me as rather skewed logic.

It's nice, at least, for CMP orders. Get yourself a Garand and/or a M1 Carbine--sent to your house--while the supply lasts--the number available is finite and dwindling.

Yes....

The CMP operates under a CONGRESIONAL CHARTER, which allows them to bypass the BATF requirement that firearms be shipped to FFL's. They are the ONLY entity in the US that has this capability.

Never fear about possible criminal misuse of this system..... The CMP order form that you fill out is a legal substitute for gunshop "yellows" and the CMP uses them to do a NICS check on you before approving the shipment.

Best,

Garands forever

My Fedex guy knows what comes in CMP boxes and was nice enough to attempt delivery three times in one day for my Garand. Right to my door!

When you get word from CMP that your rifle has been shipped, it will be at your door he next day and usually very close to the quoted delivery time (I mean within hours, not days)

One word of caution

Just one caution.

Yes, the CMP ships your rifle and ammunition direct to your home, no FFL required.

But ... there must be an adult at home to sign for the package. The Fedex people will not leave it on the porch like they might leave your order from Sears, (thank heavens!!!) or let one of the kids that are home from school sign for it.

After having to drive to the Fedex center in Indiana to pick up my 1st Garand I started using my office address as my delivery address.

It made things a whole lot easier since there is always somebody (mainly me) here all day long during normal delivery hours.

If you work at a place that isn't real shooter friendly, you might work something out with a neighbor, but at my place everybody can't wait to see what came in that big box this time. (Another Garand and 2 Carbines so far)

My favorite was when I ordered two ammo cans full of Lake City 30.06 and had them sitting on my windowsill. One of the other partners came in and asked me, "What's in the ammo cans?" I told him to go ahead and look.

He said "Damn, you actually have ammo in the ammo cans!"

Order with a clear conscience. The folks at CMP are absolutely the best.
