So, I plan to order an M1 through the CMP. I lack a passport, despite my dear wife's protestations. I am eagerly awaiting a copy of my birth certificate from the great state of Texas. Will the CMP accept a photocopy of said document, in order that I may use the quasi-original to obtain said passport, or do I need to basically forward the hard document to Anniston to prove my citizenship? Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Copies. I'm sure you've seen it, but check out this page.

They have excellent customer service, BTW. It would have come in handy in another thread I read tonight, had the rifle been bought from them. Buy with confidence, and enjoy your M1.

You do have to jump through some hoops with the CMP but I've never hears of a passport being required to purchase from them.

InkEd, See the link in post #2. The answer is in post #5. A passport is ONE way to show US Citizenship. Showing a Passport is not required if a person can show citizenship with another document.

Folks in post number 2 Tim posted the rules for how to obtain a rifle from the CPM. If you take the time to read it, you will find how (for many of us) it's surprisingly easy to buy a rifle from them. It's by far the best deal going on M1s right now.

The choice is yours. ;)

My friend ordered earlier this week. what is the current delivery time? cmp says 1-2 months on the website.

Whatever it is, it's better than the six months we had to wait three years ago.

Use your time wisely and read everything you can about the M1 at the CMP website. Consider getting a second job to cover ammo costs. :D

I have the same question. I just received the email stating that I would receive another email when the order is processed. They didn't say how long it will be.

Your best bet is asking on the CMP forums.

Thanks for the info. As was (kindly and gently) pointed out to me on another forum, it does say "copy"and not "certified copy," which is what I have ordered. Guess I was overthinking it. Or my reading comprehension has declined since school. D'oh! Getting antsy waiting for the BC, can only imagine how bad it will be once I send in my paperwork and wait for the order to process. Already have the adjustable gas valve and repro m1907 sling. Sadly the El Paso Saddlery table at the last gun show did not have one. I require more "PING!" in my life.

There is a great deal on information available on the CMP website. I mean lots of it. While you're waiting on delivery is a great time to learn about these old rifles.

Here is a HRA with a LMR barrel, and HRA walnut stock. (All correct)

These rifles are a great deal of fun to shoot. How ever much ammo you were planning on buying, you better double it. In my opinion the Greek HXP sold by the CMP is the best deal going right now.
