What I like about those "we are shocked" exposes is that they first tell us that The Government is spying on us. (Big news!) Then they tell us to take action and demand that (you guessed it!) The Government do something about it!
Is there something I am missing, or are they just blowing smoke.
Anyone really concerned better not have credit cards (purchases can be checked), grocery store "discount" cards (same), bank accounts, company stocks or bonds, automobiles, guns, network connected computers, telephones, cell phones, or just about anything we use today.
Why do you think you get all those catalogs for stuff you don't want? Because a data mining operation and name transfer says you might be in the target area.
How much do "they" know about you? Damned near everything if "they" want to do some simple searches. With so much info in data bases, many with no protection at all, it is actually surprising that so few people care or that there are so few abuses.
As to finding guns in a house, I heard from a good source a few years ago that "they" had "radar" that could tell a Luger (or a lookalike such as the Ruger auto) from a M1911 lookalike. By now they can probably read the serial number. They also routinely scan crowds at political events, rock concerts and the like for concealed weapons. If one is detected, they don't give away the technique; they just send a cop out to "notice a bulge" in someone's coat and do the search.
