CO heroine being attacked by the media - for a DECADE-old mistake!

It doesn't fit the media's agenda to have anyone other than a cop to stop a bad guy. Since they only want LEOs to have firearms, any civilian who stops a horribile crime like this must be brought down at any cost. Notice how they keep calling her a security guard? That would give her quasi status to carry a gun, but the media try to make it sound like that was her job at the church. They couldn't imagine anyone vollentering to protect their church members from a lunatic under any circumstances.

And during her interview (gasp) she said God (double gasp) was watching out for her, well any body who would belive god had watched over them in a dangous situation must be hiding something pretty bad.

She did good and deserves our respect and praise.

She lost her cool and cussed...and later denied it because she knew it would warrant a reprimand. Hmmm...Lemme see...I think I used to do that a lot when my ol' pappy would ask me: "What did you just say???"

I guess the talkin' heads who are hounding her have never, EVER cussed or lied about anything. Saints, I tell ya! They're as pure as the driven snow.

what seems unfair about this whole thing to me is that she never asked to be a public figure.. what you guys say is right about when people CHOOSE to enter public life. All bets are off and everythings fairgame. this lady just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when the wrong dude came trapsing through the door. She did what any one of us would hope we would do. Now she's being dragged through the mud for something she did another lifetime ago? that just causes a major and sudden difference in pressure. (keeping it high road, consult your physics or chemistry book if your confused) Moreover, It could be looked on as an intimidation tactic.. Think about this.. if you were so unlucky as to end up in a similar circumstance, will the way this episode is playing out go throgh your head and impact the way you make your decisions? You'd like to think it won't but Schroedinger's cat is in play here. (again, consult physics textbook if confused).

Eh, what do I know. I've been up for I don't know how many hours now..

I hate the last few days of the semester...

While I agree that there is no reason the old incident should have been brought up, I don't see that the media is attacking Assam or trying an ad hominem attack. The statements made do appear to be factual. Maybe if y'all weren't so paranoid you would see this is a better light. What I read is that Assam screwed up 10 years ago, moved on with her life, got a CCW, and became a hero during a crisis where she acted admirably. This reads like a positive success story for Assam and a positive success for CCW people.

Hmmm...and what's this about the killer's death being a suicide?
As with several such killers as in Omaha Mall incident, Columbine, Virginia Tech, etc., the people doing the killing have no plans for capture or survival. When they have reached their completed goals or realize that their time is up (due to lack of resources, lack of targets, encountering opposition, impending capture, etc.), they commit suicide.

I think these media creeps have another motive in tearing her down. NOT A STINKING ONE OF THEM have anywhere the moral courage to have done something like she did. That makes them feel guilty that they are no-gutted, no-testicular, jello-kneed, quivering, sniviling COWARDS themselves.

probably another good reason to stay out of the media spotlight if it can be helped.

the lecherous bastards will dig for dirt and find it and use it for their nefarious purposes.

Gee, makes me glad I'm so bloody perfect.

What is the motivation for taking a hero and stompng them publicly? Bashing anyone with enough stones to take care of themselves and others. It serves no purpose. We are not further informed of anything, nor does it have any bearing on the events. Mud slinging, pure and simple. The establishment prefers sheep.

What is the motivation for taking a hero and stompng them publicly?

Simply because in one awful moment, she did more for the argument for carrying a gun into a church or a shopping mall or onto a school campus than
anything that could have been said or written by the millions of pro-carry supporters.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, the picture that she painted is worth
a 20-volume study, and the message came through loud and clear:

"An armed citizen saved lives today."

"They" are simply not comfortable with that concept...that a "mere snip of a girl" didn't crawl around on the floor with the other big, strong men...praying that the shooter would target somebody else.

It doesn't pay to be heroic around campaign time by doing anything that can be opined on by the media or candidates.Anything involving guns is going to get the works. This mudslide could go on forever as it has all the needed elements to be a media mainstay.Pretty white woman, church, guns, death, former LEO. What a windfall.Forget about the facts of what happened, just go for the throat.

Two things

1: This is what cops have to deal with. Getting canned for what was very possibly something stupid like, "I don't remember saying that." Then having that brought up YEARS later. (But, wait, many of you say police aren't accountable for any of our actions. Guess what, we are.)

2: Her brother's name is Sam Assam..............heh.............I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam Assam.

We here in Colorado are dammed proud of the lass. Let the rest of the world print what they will She is a hero to us .

The media is just upset that their headlines didn't read "Hundreds Killed By Gun-Toting Madman"...

So they will milk the life out of this in everyway possible to make up for it!

It's like I've said in countless other threads (especially when people ask for "aftermath" advice).

The press is not your friend. They thrive on sensationalism, that's how they make their money and that's ALL they care about. If you give them the slightest tidbit to use THEY WILL USE IT regardless of any damage it may do to you.

Oh my she swore at a bus driver, say it aint so! ROFLMAO! Sounds like her old dept. had bigger problems than I care to expand on. I just hate it when people refuse to live in the real world. Guess all those officers on COPS should get the boot every time we hear one of them swear on national television.....yeah, that's gonna happen.

The only thing her being an ex-LEO (and I really don't care why she's an ex) tells me is that she knew (not theoretical, she KNEW) that when she broke cover she would very likely take a bullet by an active shooter with a rifle. She put that aside and did what needed to be done. A lot of civilians have this fantasy mindset about bullets going only downrange. An ex-LEO from an inner city knows better. She knew she might die that day and she went for it.

I'm not a religious person, but anyone who's faith allows them to be the right hand of God is okay with me.

It's sad the the Minneapolis PD "spokesman" are showing their pettiness by trashing her. They didn't need to say anything. IMO she's in much better company now.

As for Ms. Amy Forliti of the Associated Antiamerican Press, she is probably very proud of herself. The real issue is that if she was in trouble, we would help her. That is the shame.

The event in Mpls happened 10 years ago, and Ms. Assam paid her price. Anything to tarnish American Heros and Christians, and anyone who isn't one of the protected species under political correctness.

The Socialist Mainstream Media may someday be brought down, they are paying financially now, but their propaganda has been continuous.

I don't have any problem with her being fired 10 years ago - she lied under oath, and as someone who had sworn to uphold the law, IMO that's a firable offense, despite the fact that it was over something ridiculous - But that should not take away from the sheer bravery she displayed the other day. Her actions saved lives, and this story, coupled with the story that the gunman's death was ruled a suicide - it seems as if the're trying hard to pull the rug out from under this lady - it's very sad.

Personally, I don't care what she's done or what she does from now on, because what she did was amazing. On the threads about the omaha shooting, many posters mentioned that they might not have tried to take on a guy armed with a rifle with a pistol - she did - and in my book she's a hero.

modern t.v. news media has devolved to licking the scum off the bathroom floor behind the toilet bowl! That and obseessing over sleazy, loser, has been pop artists underwear wars.

they don't get one penny of my money! and I'm dead serious.....not one penny!

Apparently she worked for some other police departments later, but the article passed over that very quickly. :scrutiny:

In any case, within the anti-gun movement and allied left wing urban media, it is a basic premise that ONLY law enforcement officers and members of the military services can POSSIBLY be competent in the handling of firearms. Therefore it is both necessary and wise to restrict - or better yet, prohibit - the rest of us from owning such things.

But if an "ordinary" person - and even worse, a woman - can effectively stop a mass killer they have to find some way to discredit her, or face the probability that their most basic tenet will be compromised.

What if someone starts to compare what happened at gun-free Virginia Tech vs. what happened here?

America's gun control movement, including the urban media cannot permit that to happen...
