CO heroine being attacked by the media - for a DECADE-old mistake!

When I watched the interview that Jeanne gave alongside her pastor I knew the media was not going to be happy, my gosh she used the G word and gave God credit for her strength in confronting this evil shooter. She represents everything they are against.

I hope Jeanne finds a lawyer who is willing to take on the MPLS PD, but, I suspect she is going to forgive them for what they have done. Another concept the media just will not understand.

Ahhhh . . . a sheepdog in the midst of all those sheep.

That petite little female sheepdog surely ruined that killer's day!

Only sheep at Virginia Tech . . .

Only sheep at Columbine (including officer Neil Gardner who exchanged a few shots outside with Kliebold before he "withdrew to await backup")

Only sheep at Pearl Mississippi . . . WAIT . . . that Asst. Principal ran out of the building . . . got his .45ACP and returned to disarm the shooter before the cops got there.

Yep . . . the bad guys dread sheepdogs . . . and the press probably hates 'em . . . due to the fact that sheepdogs cut down severely on the body counts that the press can otherwise talk about for days to come.

GOD BLESS THE SHEEPDOGS!

T.

She earned being fired from the police department. Maybe her actions since have evened things up.

I am astonished that the Minneapolis PD would release that info. That's a personnel matter, and I thought personnel records were supposed to be private.

And I view it as the more egregious because they conveniently maintained a record that she was fired for lying, but they somehow don't have any other records of her service "because it was so long ago."

I smell a rat. Minneapolis is in an anti- zone, is it not? This is an outright witch hunt, IMHO.

Look, she's a liar. I'm glad she's not a cop.

She saved lives.

In no way does the former diminish the latter.

She earned being fired from the police department.

Qualify that statement, please. She cussed at somebody and denied it later.
Some cops have done far worse, and are still on the job. I'd be willin' to bet that there was a little politickin' at the bottom of that story. Somebody in a position to make a difference wanted a reason to fire her...and badly...in order to make it happen over such a relatively trivial incident.

The mainstream press really are partisan animals. This is absolutely horrific. You step forward and save many lives, then they drag you through the mud. I wish the reporter a long and cancer-ridden life.

In no way does the former diminish the latter.

The former is NOT EVEN RELEVANT. It has nothing to do with anything, and is rank character assassination. I hope she sues the hell out of the newspapers and her former employer.

I am astonished that the Minneapolis PD would release that info. That's a personnel matter, and I thought personnel records were supposed to be private.

I'm also surprised. There are some circumstances where some aspects of police poersonnel files can be disclosed, but it's usually under a protective order and the supervision of a court. Maybe Minn. law is different, but I doubt it. This is someone conspiring with the anti-gun press to attack the woman. A lower form of creature does not exist.

any public figure.

?? She's a private person who did one newsworthy thing. This does not make her a public figure under the law.

There is nothing wrong with reporting the facts.

When those facts are irrelevant character attack, yes there is. Esp. when dealing with a private citizen who was injected into a controversy. This entire story is a rank attack on her character for partisan political reasons. It is intolerable, and I hope the papers are sued long and hard along with the PD that released her personnel records.

There is nothing wrong with reporting the facts. That does not take away from what she did.

Folks,

Can I add another perspective?

Two of the people who most influenced my evolving view on gun ownership were newspaper men. From the editorial side no less. One retired, but one remains fairly high up on the food chain. Guns are an integral part of their lives and I suspect they would no sooner give up their right to bear arms than any of you.

My point is this: rather than holding such a black & white view with regards to the media, try to seek out such people in the media. They are out there.

Also, remember that while an editorial department may indeed be more liberal and/or gun unfriendly than average, the business side (i.e., publisher) is most likely to be run by conservatives. At the end of the day, the business side controls the show, any protestations from editorial types to the contrary.

Sheriff thanks for that link...

Second Amendment: As the Supreme Court ponders what the Constitution means, a volunteer security guard in Colorado shows that the problem with society may not be who has guns, but who doesn't.

Imagine if someone like her had been at the Omaha mall, or VT, or Littleton...

The media is doing what it does best, attempt to discredit, demonize, or diminish anything contrary to the liberal mainstream. They can not allow a female, Christian, gun owner to actively stop a murderer and be held in honor for it. It goes against everything they are told to promote.

They are reporting the fact that the gunman shot himself. They are twisting that fact to make it seem that Ms. Assam's actions had no effect on the outcome. I disagree, had she not hit this man several times, he would have surely killed more people.

Jeanne Assam was in the right place at the right time, as God wanted.

Think about this:

If she didn't cuss, she wouldn't have gotten fired. If she didn't get fired, most likely she would still be on the force. That means, she may never have joined the church and be a security guard and ultimatley stop the shooter.

Sooooo, I'm glad she got fired.

I call it Divine intervention.

:)

To clarify:

It seems Ms. Assam shot the attacker twice in the thigh and once in the wrist, with a Beretta 9mm.

The attacker was reported as using a Bushmaster although there are press reports of him using a shotgun to commit suicide.

Ms. Assam was apparently not dismissed but subject to a 24 hour suspension as the result of a complaint against her from a member of the public. The complaint was the use of "abusive" language.

Even if the Press could get the facts straight, it is probably unlikely they could publish those facts without distortion based upon their political agendae.

It is perhaps fortunate that Johnny Sutton is not the United States Attorney for the jurisdiction or this lady would get ten years in jail..?

Typical cowardly crap.

If somebody does something good, something better, more virtuous and braver than you would do, but they have a single issue that makes you dislike them (using a handgun in self defense and defense of others in this case), just rake up some old, usually trivial muck about them and try to use it to distract those who would be inclined to approve them and applaud their actions.
No use being honest, after all.

Can somebody clear up some details for me, please? How did the perp splatter himself with a shotgun, when there is no mention of a shotgun, only handguns and <gasp> an "assault rifle" in his possession? Does anyone have the straight skinny on what the perp was carrying durinig the commission of his crimes?
