Does anyone hear use an ultimak mount on their ak, and an optic that alows you to co witness with the iron sights?

Ultimak's websight says you can use an aimpoint and low mount rings to co witness, but I don't want to spend almost as much on an optic as I did for the rifle.

I do, but I have an Aimpoint.

Cowitnessing ain't all that, provided you have a way to get the optic off quickly, and provided you don't need a riser to get proper cheekweld with the optic. Cowitnessing is mostly useful for instances where an optic is dead and you need to sight through it. As long as you can jettison the dead optic rapidly, I see no real reason to obsess about cowitnessing.

Why would you co witness?

My uncle had a high mounted see through scope mount once. He scoped a deer then shifted his eyes to the iron sights, fired and missed. After I asked him if his scope was sighted in and after he confirmed that had he pulled the trigger looking through the scope he would not have missed it dawned on him that see through mounts were a waste for deer hunting.

The only other reason to have a see through type scope mount that I can think of is if you are using you scope for spotting which is stupidly dangerous. JMO

I have an Ultimak gas tube rail on my Saiga. I put an Aimpoint CompC3 red dot with the Aimpoint mount on the rail. It co-witnesses just fine.

I know Aimpoints aren't cheap, but if you want your red dot scope to actually work, it pays to buy something that is well made. I bought a $150 Bushnell red/green dot 1x32 Trophy scope and it had a short in the on-off dial. It would turn off by itself sometimes. I sent the Bushnell back, bucked up and bought the Aimpoint. It has been flawless so far.
