I have been thinking about getting a Stoeger Supreme Coach gun for a while now. I have wanted a short SxS double since I was a kid and these seem a tremendous bargin.

I do not understand though, why the currently available selection of coach guns from Stoeger, Rossi, Bakil and Remington's Sparten division are all barreled at 20".

The 20” guns come in at ~36”, NFA minimum is 26”. So why doesn’t anyone make a coach gun with an 18" barrel?

postman,

(PM sent.)

I don't know why they are in 20", but all of them are. They are pretty short in 20", so maybe the 18" doesn't balance as well, I don't know. I've never handled an 18", myself.

I mentioned in the PM that I'm getting ready to post some Stoeger SxS shotuns on the sale forums (Coach guns and Uplanders).

Steve

Even a double cut to 22" seems really short. My guess, the rules someplace demand a minimum of 20", not 18".

And, a 20" double is quite manueverable.

One former co worker of WW's is descended from a Confederate cavalryman. Among his heirlooms was a very short, 14-16" barreled ML double of maybe 20 gauge. Felt like a large handgun when I got to handle it.

My guess is that they are a half of a meter long :)
That's 50cm or 19.685 inches, which would be called 20 inch.
All guns you mentioned are made in countries with a metric system.

Hmmmm

The above SOUNDS correct to me BUT just a guess. Below is my SxS 10GA.
while a bit Heavy still balances well at 18.25 inches, so dont think its a baalnce ratio issue but perhaps as stated above. GOOD question.

loandr,

Now that thing would clear a room!

I could picture an old west lawman walking into an old saloon and leveling that thing at a poker table... chairs scooting fast... rustlers scattering...

Thanks........

Feels like (2) Harley Tailpipes set in mahogany ;) Thanks for the kind words sir....my shoulder could use the pick me up! :)
Loandr.

FYI- Tough to tell in the pic BUT brass bead is set 3/4 way down tubes, NOT towards end...hence sight picture is purty quick for a SXS. She spends most of her time over the fireplace. :D

I once cut a Stevens that had a very damaged/rusted front to 18.5", & it balanced just fine. But I now have a Stoeger Silverado, & it balances just fine also.

Before Remington began importing the Baikals under the "Spartan" label, EAA used to list a hammered coach gun with 18.5" barrels. I always kinda wanted one but never got a "round tuit" and suddenly Spartan replaced EAA and the 18.5" was no longer listed. Of course, I don't know of anyone who ever actually saw one...

I"ve got one of the Baikal 20" coach 12 gauge "Bounty Hunter II's" as my HD gun. I love it to death, but I need to take it out at least once and shoot it, as I haven't had a chance yet :what:

Heh, I've got one of the Baikail 20" SxS's too (without the external hammers) and that thing is SHORT. I'd wager the 20" thing is a legacy thing dating back to the old west where they got the name "Coach Gun" but I cannot verify that, nor am I terribly worried.

What do the Stoeger's go for? I've seen the Baikal's go for $260 around here. Might want to weight your options I suppose.

Third rail......

Eagle Arms out of NY and it's a custom CUT and reset job from a Suncoast gunshow in W. Palm from perhaps a decade ago with some sighting mod's by your truly. :) :) BUTTT Thanks for the kind words.

ABOVE 3 shotties are awesome thanks for the pics!

My shoulder aches at the very thought of setting off a lightweight 10ga SxS.

But I still want one....
