Coast folders at Home Depot holiday sale!

Well, I got a knife from Home Depot...but it is made by Milwaukee tool.
Nice, non-threatening red handle, and black tanto blade with assisted opening.
I've been using it a lot at work for cutting up boxes and opening things, and it has been great. It was on sale for $14.99 when I bought it.
The assisted open is excellent.
My favorite edc folder is the Spyderco Endura, but I don't like to treat it to work abuse like a nice cheap knife like the Milwaukee.

I picked mine up yesterday. I ordered it with paypal online, then picked it up at customer service in the store. Will be my new edc knife for now. I won't feel so bad when I eventually lose it...

They're still $7.00 on the web site.
Yes, order and pay for it on the web, then simply walk into the store, go to the customer service desk that's right upfront, show ID, and then walk out the door with your new knife.

I couldn't even find the DX340 when I went to the store, but online, it stated my store had some in stock.

"...you got more knives than Carter has liver pills..."

Don't we all? It ain't about need. It's about satisfying warm feelings and the 'I Want's' that long for satisfaction. BTDT, still enjoying it. :)

Need vs Want... :uhoh:
While I have been pondering this thread, and the knife being discussed, a little voice tells me that there will be a new Leek in my Christmas stocking soon. :)

Must stay away from Home Depot for at least ten more days. :scrutiny:

I picked up one of the DX-340's a while ago for a stocking stuffer for my son.

Priced $9.97, but rang up $7.00 at the register.

I won't get to see it out of the bubble package till xmas, but it looks pretty darn good for $7.00!

You people are pure evil! I do not need another knife and I did not intend on buying one. However I happen to be in Home Depot yesterday looking at step ladders. I didn't get a ladder but I did walk out the door with a $7 knife (that I paid for). I haven't used it yet. It was sharp enough out of the box and seems pretty sturdy. Cool, I have another new beater knife. LOL

Yup, me too. Sure don't need another knife, but for 7 bucks I put a lanyard on it and hung it in the shed. It'll see plenty of use out there.

Curiously, HD does not sell these in New York; in fact, I tried the ship-to-store option and it wouldn't list any stores in New York. So I picked one up in Pennsylvania a few days ago. I'm not sure if it's because of the one-handed opening feature or the length of the locking blade that HD has decided wouldn't work in New York. I don't believe they're illegal here … yet.

Very nice knife. And an amazing amount of enthusiasm generated on The High Road for a seven dollar folder! :)

Thanks for the Gift Idea!

Every year I get together with 5 of my long time buddies from H.S. for a holiday dinner. We do a gift exchange with a max $10.00 limit. I have been :banghead: thinking about what to give this year, but thanks to HSO starting this thread I will now have it covered!

If you can manage to up that limit a tad (ok, double), made in the USA serrated Kershaw Leek's can be had for $22 right now, shipped next day for free from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1660ST-Serrated-Folding-SpeedSafe/dp/B0009VC9YA/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1418856478&sr=8-5&keywords=kershaw+leek

edited to add: they also seem to be having the '$10 off $50' deal going on now too, so if you added, say, another plain blade leek you could conceivably get both for ~$40 shipped which is a steal if there ever was one (imo).

It's gonna depend on the type of knife you want.

The Leek is a small dress knife with limited heavy duty use.

The Coast DX-340 isn't.

It is more closer to a big TAC folder you can abuse on the job with no guilty conscience if you break or lose it somehow.

No so with a Leek.

Just returned from Home Depot. That might be the best $7.00 I have spent in a number of years. The DX-340 looks like a great value in an EDC / work knife. The deep pocket clip seems to work very well.

Did I say $7.00? Well, plus tax, and one for me, one for each vehicle, and one each for my son and my brother for Christmas.

Thanks for the tip, hso!

Ok so tomorrow after dropping "The Boy" off at school I will make the extra five blocks to HD......there better still be knives there or you guys are in for it!

The wife seems to have lost the disposable construction blade folding lock back I got her for the barn so I am thinking one of the HD knives that can have a lanyard long enough to tie it to a stall door and let her open hay bales with it AND NOT LOOSE IT! Since everytime I have found that thing laying out it was open I fear I may find it next week clearing some old hay, and once will be enough thank you. Since loosing it she has been using a butcher knife I keep in a shoe holder in a home made sheath on the back of the tack room door......and she leaves it out atop the bales unsheathed at least once a week. Grrrrr!

Wonder if they might have something for "The Girl" as she has complained of having only a small key chain style SAK.

Today I was at my local HD returning a welding helmet that I just flat didn't need. At some point in the transaction, I pulled my wallet from my front pocket and managed to drop $8 on the floor, unnoticed. The guy in line behind me picked up the cash and handed it to me, making a joke about ''That coulda been the easiest $8 I made all week." I thanked him, shook his hand and we went our separate ways; specifically, I went back to the tools area for a shop vac, and a look at the Coast folders. I talked myself out of one, then went back to agonizing over with shop vac to adopt. I noticed the the guy from the return line fondling the very last of the Coast folders, looking, looking harder, hanging it back up..... then pulling it down, looking...... so, my path was clear.

I grabbed my vac and the knife and checked out. I caught the fella at the door, shook his hand again and presented him with the knife. We had a polite disagreement about whether he deserved it or not, but he walked away with it. I did it because too many folks would have simply waited for me to clear off and scooped up the cash, and $8 won't make or break me; besides, he was obviously just off work just like me, and working guys ought have each other's backs.

There are supposed to more knives coming into HD tomorrow, and I'm going there for a new front door. I might just pull the trigger on 3 or 4 more of those knives......stocking stuffers........

Very well done Sir!

I salute you!

Pay it forward, and it will be returned someday by good folks like you.
And him.

I picked up two of them, put one in each of my vehicles. It's a solid knife, should be heavier duty than the 340. Bigger and heavier than I want for every day carry, but should be a great utility knife. For me it opens more easily than the 340, and the frame lock is very solid.

I already bought the 340. It is slow to open, so that's good to hear that the 416 is a little better. My wife took my 5 year old to Home Depot yesterday, and she got him to pick out the 416 for me for xmas... I'll have to wait a few more days before I can play with my new toy.

I picked up an FX416 for bashing around.

It doesn't hold an edge like other knives I have, but it strops back sharp on the back of a legal pad easily enough.
