I finally couldn't take it any longer, and bought three more of the knives in question. Haven't opened any of the clampacks yet, but I got to inspect two belonging to friends. I've carried worse, and paid more money for the privilege.

I gots me an FX411 with the purty wood handles. A few more bucks, but I'm a sucker for nice wood grips. Knife seems quite adequate for my needs, although a tad large for pocket carry. Funny thing is, Home Depot won't let us use knives like this at work! We have to use their special "safety" knives. IOW, useless crap razor knives. Safety is more important than efficiency ya know. At least when someone's watching.....

Yea, I'm not "supposed" to use my knife at work either... Instead they require us to use one of these:

Which does not retract automatically, and I can't for the life of me understand how it's any safer...

I was VERY impressed with the DX340 I got my son for Xmas.

Unbleavably good in fact, for a $7 buck folder of any kind.
It remains to be seen how well it holds up and holds an edge.
But it sure looks like way more the a $7 buck knife!

Where it not for HSO, I would never in my life even given Coast knives a second glance while walking through Home Depot.

Thanks HSO!

Thanks, RC. I was impressed as well.

I may go get a couple of the littler ones at Lowes just for future gifts.

Just got back from town and now have one of the 340 versions in my back pocket. They were still only 7 bucks too ... :)
With recommendations from rc and hso I figured it MUST be a good deal. Thanks guys.

Hmmm, Does hso work at Home Depot? Interesting thought, however I bought one on the basis of this thread and have only tinkered with it. So far so good and I am happy to have the $7 dollar beater to have around. :)

solely responsible for 99% of Home Depot's sales

Hey, I didn't buy that many of the dang things!

Leatherman and Coast made some sort of a killer deal with Home Depot and really blew up their product recognition with it. Now there will be people all year round asking Sum Guy where they got their nifty knife or multiplier and they'll say "On sale at HD" and those folks will look for one the next time they're in HD and pay $45 instead of $20 for the Leatherman or $25 for the Coast. Great marketing on their part.

Well, I got my DX340 today.
Free!

I told a friend about them last week, and he bought 4 today, then gave one to me!

Mine is a little looser in the liner lock, 2nd. Safety Lock then the one I gave my son for Xmas.

Have to dig out my 'Tiny Torx' screwdrivers tomorrow and see what's up with that.

Otherwise!
VERY DEEP pocket clip, and BIG thumb studs make digging it out of your jeans pocket a little slow..

That's great for concealment, and not losing it.
Not so great for rapid deployment, and Jeans pocket lining!

May have to look into trimming the thumb studs down a little too.

I used it tonight to slice up a steak on a china plate, and it was still sharp as heck afterwords.

That's a hard test on any knife blade edge right there!

Anyway, I'll keep it!!!! :D

I fixed the 'hard to get out' problem this afternoon.

Flipped the clip to point up carry, and now you have something to grab to get out of your pocket quickly.
(And the thumb studs no longer lock it under your pocket seam.)

Works slick as owl snot now!

I think I will go back and blue lock-tight the pocket clip screws tomorrow.

Afraid they will eventually strip out of the scale threads if allowed to have their way with them.

I had one Benchmade do that when the screws got loose and I kept tightening them in the G-10 scales.
