We have a new Probate judge in Cobb County, Georgia: Kelli Wolk. (For those not in Georgia, the Probate judge issues CCW licenses, called a Georgia Firearms License.)
I'm aware of the lawsuits and complaints against the previous Probate judge, David Dodd, who retired. I have to say that, despite the complaints some others had against him, my initial license and renewal were signed right at the 60-day mark as described by the then-existent Georgia statutes. Of course, I would have preferred to get mine the next day, but he appeared to try to get the licenses issued in a (somewhat) timely manner.
My current license expires in April, so I'm making a visit to Probate later today to do the paperwork for my renewal. Judge Wolk is new in the job (it's her first judicial position), and I don't know her position on issuance of licenses.
Does anyone on this forum know?
While the law in Georgia stipulates a time period for licenses, the state Court of Appeals has basically said that judges can ignore the time period if they think they need to wait for background check reports from the GBI, FBI, NCIC, etc. (It really instills confidence in a citizen to know that judges can ignore the law.) Dodd generally tried to get licenses out within 60 days. I don't know how Wolk will handle it. I guess I'm just a little worried that my current license might expire before she gets my new one signed.
