I also checked out the Bersa Thunder 380 Plus model and I must say I really like it too, how do you all feel about a 380 being your primary carry. It comes with 2 double stack 15 round mag and built in key trigger lock. ahhh decisions decisions, also he has the smith sd9ve for the same price as the ruger, any thoughts or suggestions

Kyoten3, I carry the Bersa Plus about 50 percent of the time. I love it, great feeling, reliable and who can argue with 13 rounds of 380? I've also been carrying for over 15 years, even when it wasn't codified. I carry what is comfortable at the time. I carry XDS, 1911 Bersa .....Whatever I happen to pick up. You just have to get comfortable. Actually the Bersa has a long first DA pull that is like a revolver so that you don't have to carry with a safety on. Helps to not worry.

Your Cobra sounds like it is reliable enough to get to what you want to carry daily. Take your time and do it right.

I have heard positive things about the PT111 but have never held or fired one. I believe they have a $50 rebate going now.

I have the 40 caliber version of the S&W. The trigger is mediocre and it is bigger than I would prefer to CC, but it goes bang every time. I think I paid about $200 for it LNIB on GB.

Hello all and thanks for the great support, went down to the gun shop today and spent about 2 hours checking out different firearms, feeling them, trying the action, everything I could think of and I have officially made my change today, and from what im seeing online it comes at a good price. GrabAgun sells it for 257.60 when they have it in stock, but I am getting it for 245.99 its a Taurus PT140 MIL PRO G2 .40cal come with one 11 round mag but I will buy a 2nd for it once i pick it up.

This came up right in line with the Sccy but a little cheaper and since a bunch of you like Taurus and it has some great reviews I figured that it would make a nice carry weapon

Also .40 should pack more then enough power for summer or winter attire, also this gun is designed for conceal carry, all the edges are smooth and theres nothing to snag on clothes i could find, its SA/DA both and has a smooth trigger that melts into breaking, i really like it, plus its just beautiful, ill link the grabagun page if you wanna see it

Mine is identical to that one, i would have took pictures today but I didnt have a camera on me.

Feel free to chime in with comments or any suggestions, im thinking of saving for a laser but not sure how that works or if this gun can use one. Since I work at night i thought a laser would be very handy for quick draw down on target if needed.

kyoten, the Taurus isn't a bad choice for your constraints, the only concern I would have is .40 ammo is a bit more expensive and the .40 from a small, light gun like that is going to have more recoil than 9mm.

Also, with that barrel length, you will have to find some .40 S&W designed for short barrels to make certain the hollow point will expand. Speer Gold Dot load for short barrel .40's will work and the regular Gold Dots should work well too. Hornady Critical Defense is optimized for shorter barrels, so that should work well. DO NOT use Hornady Critical Duty in the Taurus as Critical Duty is meant for larger, full size pistols.

I'm not saying it's a bad choice, it's not, .40 S&W is always a good choice, but what you have to ask yourself is if it's a good choice for you? .40 will certainly get the job done in any climate, but can you accept the slightly higher price to shoot it and the extra recoil?

Actually, Winchester White Box 180 grain Bonded might work from short barrels too and that's usually a pretty low price ammo. Cabela's sells it and when they run their free shipping deals, you might consider picking up some of this:

As for lights/lasers, Streamlight TLR-3 is a compact gunlight. Walmart sells them for $96 and free shipping. Streamlight also has a laser/light compact version, the TLR-4, but I would advise against that because you can't holster a gun with the laser/light so taking it on and off could throw off the laser alignment. Just stick to the TLR-3, keep it in a pouch on your belt for night duty.

And don't worry about quality, Streamlights are rock solid.

I second the last post. .40 is a great cartridge and is my favorite of the big three, however 9mm is my preferred single stack, concealed carry cartridge.

Another thing you may want to consider in time is night sights, since you mention that you work nights. Pricey, but for the situation, you can't beat a set of night sights.

The cost of .40 is higher then 9mm here but not by a whole lot, walmart sells fmj rounds in 9mm for 14.00 for 50 17.00 for 50 .40 fmj plus I actually was going to get the pt111, actually had it out and loved it but a friend of mine who came with me talked me into the .40, he reloads and gave me 400 rounds of fmj target ammo and 4 boxes of critical defense. His primary carry is a kahr .40 and he is going to reload my brass anytime i need it, just gotta pay the cost so that actually makes the .40 cheaper for me.

I had made a post on facebook about what to get and we had not really talked in a while as he had moved to tn but is in the process of moving back (im assisting now, hey thats a lot of ammo, gotta pay it back somehow :D) he told me he would meet me there and we would look at some of the guns and figure out whats best. i was able to shoot his 40 today and really liked it, recoil doesnt bother me much as I'm a big guy and his carry is smaller and lighter then the taurus.

Excellent! It's great you know someone who'll reload for you and gave you 80 rounds of Critical Defense. I think you've found a winning package.

Do you have any further thoughts on weapon mounted lasers/lights?

its SA/DA both and has a smooth trigger that melts into breaking,

I believe that's the first time I've ever read that adjective abut a trigger as a compliment. :)

Enjoy your new gun, once you get it, and have fun burning up that free (ish) ammo.

Lol its the best term i could come up with, most firearms ive shot have a stop point in the trigger pull, where you have to apply just a bit more force to make it break, this one isnt like that, its like melt away candy, constant even pressure and boom, long pull in DA but only about 8-10 lbs but just buttery smooth :D <---nother one of those adjectives I CAN NOT WAIT to shoot it :D :D :D

What I think he was referring to is that for the most part a "good" trigger is considered to be crisp. You'll often see them described as breaking "like glass". After the takeup, whatever pressure is needed is applied and then the trigger breaks IMMEDIATELY with no "mush" to it.

All in all to some degree though triggers can be subjective. The PT-111 is certainly shootable with practice. Not the best in the world, but lately I've been shooting a 1911 with a 2 lbs break so I'm a bit spoiled :).

Ive never used night sights or a laser so im unsure which would be better in the dark, any thoughts?

Night sights are useful upgrades to standard sights to help you see them in the dark. Lasers are a useless gimmick IMHO. :)

PS Due note however that the Trijicons listed there don't fit the newer model PT-111's. I'm sure there will be eventually given how many have been sold, but currently I'm not aware of any night sights available for the PT-111 G2.

So all I am between saving for either the night sights or the laser and I dont know which would be better. Heres the ones im considering

Can't confirm if the Trijicons will fit the new Taurus PT's or not like the last poster said, but I think you should get a light.

Streamlight TLR-3 @ Walmart is $74.
