I have a Republic Arms Patriot 45 (please fight the urge to trash the gun--I've already read enough posts doing that). I know that Cobra is now making the Patriot 45. I read on their web site that it is "similar" to the Republic Arms version.

Does anyone know how similar? Specifically, I'd like to know if parts and mags are interchangeable between the two.

Thanks for any info!

It might be easier to call or email them with those questions.

FWIW I'm thinking of buying their 9mm DAO Patroit model. A local gun shop has them in stock. For the price it doesn't look like a bad pistol.

Cobra

I just didn't know how helpful I could expect them to be regarding a gun that was made by Republic Arms--they'd probably prefer I buy one with their logo on it!

If no one knows for sure, I will definately give them a call and see what they say.

FYI: Be sure to read older threads about the Patriot's. There were a number that referenced problems with the 9 that didn't exist with the 45. I don't have any first-hand experience with the 9, I just want you to purchase the gun knowing as much as possible.

Best regards,

Second that. Mine was bought from Cobra soon after their acquisition from Republic. The box and paperwork says Cobra but the grip frame says Republic Arms. I'm sure it's parts compatible. But that was years ago and who knows what changes may have taken place.

I also get pretty tired of people who knock the gun. It's a great design and has run very well for me. Detractors are usually not owners.

There used to be some inexpensive knockoffs of the KelTec P11 (another fine gun, IMHO). One was called the Talon and the other something else, can't remember. The Cobra Patriot 9mm was derived from one of the P11 knockoffs. It has undergone a good bit of development and AFAIK is a quality pistol reminiscent of the P11. It is not derived from the Cobra Patriot 45 in any way. In addition to the 9mm they also have (or used to have) the same gun in 380.

For my money, I would go with the KelTec and its well established position in the industry unless there is a huge price difference.
