Hmmm, last week I made a witnessed and lazed shot on a ground squirrel, about an 8" tall X 3" wide target. We'd moved locations & driven about 10 miles to get to this site. The barrel was cold, and the wind was kicking up a mite last Sunday on the front range of the Rockies here in Montana. The shot was 170 yards - with a CZ452 .22lr.
Nice shooting. My Savage 12 LRPV will shoot about that well at 500 yards on a good day but not with a cold bore. They finally put in a 600 yard range at my club and wouldn't you know I had to move late last fall. I'm going to get back there and pay my yearly dues to shoot one time I guess. Then I'm joining a club where I live now. Makes sense - not.
The last 2 days I have been shooting Berger 168 VLD's With RL-15 powder. And that is a load I have NO experience with. I am not blaming the results on that. But check this out
Here are some groups I shot after the Cold Bore shot with my original load with a 168gr SMK with Varget powder and the VLD RL-15
However, I went back & checked the weather for Cascade MT. zip 59421 on 4/28/13. Remember when I posted that the wind had been kicking up a mite? Afternoon winds probably averaged something in the 20's with gusts to 40 mph. My shot was made with the wind maybe 20 degrees off the right shoulder, target downwind, with a 452 American in the original stock, Nikon Monarch 3.3-10X A/O mildot, from the kneeling position. On a live target.
Someone pointed out my case of Dyslexia, I said 8.5 mll and I dialed 9.5 mil.
Just went and checked my ballistic chart. and I should have dialed 9.5 mil. Guess I was thinking one thing and talking about another. haha
Clayne_b! Very interesting and briliant shooting thank you for posting this up.have not been on here in a wile, just found this and will be watching daily from now on.
