I think historical repros that are tough enough to actually train with are pretty neat, and I'm happy to see it for that reason.

Attempting to justify this as a useful modern defensive piece, however, is absolutely silly. Anyone who has the space to have this for "home defense" can have a modern handgun instead, which has a more effective range envelope, takes much less skill to use effectively (that's the main reason firearms came to the fore, BTW: ease of training, not more effectiveness), and is less likely to make investigating LEO or a jury think you're a nutjob. If someone doesn't have the money for a firearm, a good bat runs $30*, and has more reach and less stigma if used defensively.


*okay, okay, if you prefer a longer wooden bat as opposed to a pretty pink one, the Louisville Slugger is a traditional favorite. OTOH, the light weight and smaller striking surface of the Diva will generate a lot of velocity.
