I have an old Colt 38 auto that I am restoring as a home project. This gun had a really bad re-blue job when I got it. When I removed the bluing, the color case reverted to steel color. Does anybody know how to get this color back as a do it yourself and skip all the heating and chemicals of the original process. I want this gun to look as near as possible to original. I have the bluing and fire bluing under control, but don't know a thing about color case. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi,
You could check out the Color Case-Hardening Patinas Here. Really easy, safe & affordable. (Odorless, too!) The results, even by first-time users are incredible! No Heating or Quenching Required. Thanks. Bill
p.s. If I just broke a forum rule re: commercial products...I hereby beg your forgiveness. I'm old. Really old. o_O If the admin will let me post an image or two...I'd be glad to. Thanks, Again! bw

Thanks for the help steelfx. This looks like the way I need to go. Already ordered the supplies. This Colt has 2 more rebuilds ahead of it so it will be a while before I have any results. Will let you know how it turns out.
