My question is concerning the grandfather clause of the newish 15 round magazine cap. I couldn't find where it said if the grandfather clause applied to everyone or only current state residents. I assume everyone, since I didn't see where the law specified one way or the other, but I wanted know from someone closer to that situation.

Question:
As the current resident of another state, if I move to or visit Colorado can I bring my 16+ round magazines with me if I owned them prior to the law being enacted?

Thanks!

You read it the same way I do and the only way I've ever heard it interpreted. The grandfathering applies to everyone everywhere. You may bring them.

It is different from a grandfathering based on date of manufacture in that in 17 years there will be adults unable to own one at all. (DOB is easily proved while date of manufacture is not)

There is tremendous confusion over the actual applicability of the law, as well as enforcement. It has also basically been nullified by the fact that most LEAs/LEOs are not interested in trying to enforce it.

Just need a brief "residency" in another state to circumvent that. A utility bill in your name in a different state would suffice as proof, since there is no provision in the law saying that people moving into the state cannot bring the magazines they already own. Yet another example of the incredible stupidity exhibited by our legislature; they don't even understand the laws they write, or how easily they're skirted.

We should have it overturned or nullified by amendment soon, anyway, though, as well as the ridiculous UBC that basically no one is complying with.

That's pretty much what I thought. Thank you both. I'm going to be doing some backpacking there soon and am trying to decide what to bring. I'll probably stick with 15 or less just so there's no confusion. Given the ambiguity that seems like the safer path for now. Thanks again.

So here is another question while we are contemplating the stupidity of our Colorado legislature, may they be voted out in droves.

I own a couple of 30 round Glock Mags. I know I can't sell them in Colorado, but can I sell them outside of the state?

Not while you are a resident of CO according to the letter of the law.

Wow... They made it against the law to sell them out of the state?!?! Contemplating stupidity hurts my head!
