I've had my eye out for one of the Gold Cup Colts. It's rare for me to find a gold cup in my area so I'm really interested in the one for sale on consignment at a local shop. I should get my hearing aids adjusted because I thought I heard the salesman say it was a series 70. I got to thinking about this and it's my understanding that the Mark IV is a series 80. Am I mistaken?

If it is a series 80 how much is it worth? It has a blued finish. Condition is ... 99%. They're asking $1100.

Thanks

Tom

The Mark IV was made in both a Series 70 and a Series 80. A Series 70 in 98% condition is worth about $1400 and a Series 80 in the same condition is worth about $850 according to the Blue Book. I'd say $1100 is a bit high for a Series 80.

I see them going for $900-$1,200 in most cases so $1,100 is in the upper range. How much do you want it? In 10 years they will be bringing $2,000 and your friends will envy you for having one you paid only $1,100 for.

The public wasn't happy with the 80s. I had one in the mid 1990s for sale and I could not give it away. Nothing wrong with them except the perception folks had.

Here's my Gold Cup.
