I acquired a brushed stainless Colt 1911 MK IV / Series 70
I could use some help on with a date and approximate value.

the S/N starts with an 'A' but it isn't exactly lined up with the rest of the S/N and a slightly larger font, making me thing it's not part of the S/N

it is A70B38367

the gun is a brushed stainless finish with a colt marked 8 round mag, also in brushed stainless.

Hard chrome plated, Colt did not make any original Series 70s from stainless steel and the current crop of "reissues" has 71 block numbers.
I SUSPECT the serial number was a duplicate and when they noticed it, they just added the A prefix for the legally required unique number.

Sights are MMC aftermarket.

I'll let somebody else guess a dollar value.
Are you buying, selling, insuring, divvying up an estate, or just wondering how good or bad a deal you got?

this would fall into the "or just wondering how good or bad a deal you got?" category.

and I have the original sights (or should I say an extra set of sights along with 2 sets of wood grips in a baggie

A Colt Mark IV/Series 70 with serial number 70B38367 was probably made sometime in 1982. The silvery finish, as Jim Watson pointed out, looks to be hard chrome plating or possibly Colt's factory electroless nickel finish.
