Colt 1911 or SIG Sauer P226

The 1911 still holds the all-time reliability record in US Army trials, for the record.....

The Sig is a nice gun.

A Colt is a nicer gun.

I like the 1911 platform, and have for 30+ years. Not sure why anyone thinks they are less than reliable. I think that comes when people try to carry "race guns". A basic Colt (or SA) feeds everything I put in them. They work (and have for almost 100 years) in all kinds of slop and bad weather. They conceal easily for most people. And a 45 makes big holes.

Yes the 9mm has come a long way. But guess what, that same technology that has improved the 9mm also has made the 45 even better.

Sig's are nice guns, you will be happy with either.
And yes a 9mm is easier to learn on. But, If that is the logic then they should get a 22. because it is really easy to learn on.
I have shot both for many years, and still feel that the "push" of a 45 is easier to deal with than the "rap" of a 9mm.

Now, the train can get started to tell me how wrong I am.

I am going to sleep and don't care......

I only whant to buy one centerfire gun, and it will be one of these two, both feel good in my hands.

so which of this two is more reliable, and last longer????

if you were me which would you get???
First, you will end up buying more than one centerfire pistol.

I have seven 1911s and one 226. The 226 is likely to be more reliable out of the box, though mine was shooting very high when I got it and required a trip back to Sig. Budget for a trigger job no matter what you get.

A steel-framed 1911 may last longer, given that the 226 has an aluminum frame. That said, it is unlikely that you will wear out either gun. With proper care either gun will end up being used by your children after you pass away.

I find the 1911 to have a much better trigger pull, making it easier for me to shoot accurately. I have medium sized hands and the 226 is just a bit too big for my hand. I haven't tried the short trigger -- that might improve it a bit.

Both are good guns. Personally, I prefer 1911s. YMMV.

IMHO if you stay to a non target 1911 and a 226 its just what do you prefer . Both are fine weapons which brings your choice to mag capacity and action type . If you want more rounds , and feel better with DA/SA or DAK then get the sig , if you are confident in your skills and like the best SA since a tuned colt saa then get the 1911 . I normally own both , but sold my last sig a couple of months ago and have not found another at " my " price . No matter what you get you wont go wrong , as long as you dont pick up a wanna be race or bubba'd up 1911 .

I own a Sig and I own a 1911, but most importantly, both are in .45acp.

I like the ergonomics of the P220, mine is a 1986 W. German model I bought new when it was new. My 1911 is a Kimber Custom CDP II.

Thoughts...

I'm a fan of large bullets, so the choice for me is simple - .45acp.

Try both a 1911 and a Sig, see which fits you and your needs better.

Ask yourself if a 9 or a 45 suits your needs, both pistols come in either caliber.

I shoot the 1911 much better - one ragged hole at 15 yards all day long while the Sig shoots more of a 3" pattern, still effective, but not laser beam like the 1911. Perhaps it's me, not the pistol.

I like condition 1, some can't handle it, so the Sig offers decocking.

You're the field general here, you make the call.
