The finish is wearing off and I was wondering about corrosion prevention and refinishing. I keep the externals well oiled but have to watch for surface rust because I CCW it often and it is stored in holster (I know, take it out of holster you moron!). Is the Colt finish one of those "just enough manufacturing deals" and would a custom repark be more durable and protective or should I just live with what I have. The finish is really thin and has worn off of the edges.

Got any pics? How bad is it? If it's only on the edges I call that character.

If your planning on reparking, may be a good time to install custom sights or a beavertail GS if already without!!!

By finish I am guessing that you are talking bout the factory bluing. It is nothing more than a controlled rusting process and is not very resistant to either wear or corrosion.

You can choose to keep it 'as is' and use car wax to help keep corrosion in check.

Parkerization just helps to keep oil on the surface better, but it will still wear & rust, especially if kept in a holster.

Best way would be to parkerize it & then have a modern polymer coating applied over it.

You can also apply your own spray & bake coating to the gun if you want to. Try www.brownells.com
