Detail strip, the small parts around the firing pin are first to really get dirty after alot of firing. And yes on my couple of Colts that have that system , mine are removed and blanked off by the proper parts to do so,
Never heard anything bad about the Colt 1991A1 in terms of it's overall quality and functionality; just that it's "economy grade" finish and plastic parts (mainspring housing, grips, and trigger), kind of turned off some Colt enthusiasts who were more accustomed to a nice blued finish and checkered walnut grips on their 1911s. I think Colt resorted to these cost-cutting measures to get back market share being lost to Springfield Armory since their introduction in the mid '80s. I have an early Springfield Armory M1911A1 and it was very well built and relatively inexpensive pistol at the time I got it.
