I was at a local gun shop the other day, and they had a. Colt .45 mark IV 80 series with a 3.5" barrel for sale for $499. I was in good shape maybe 8/10 with a few small scraches here and there. It was matt black with nice wood looking grips. There was no box or manual just the gun and mag. This gun felt so good in my hand and I almost bought it.

I don't know much about this gun is it worth the price? Is there any problems I should know about? I've been looing for a 1911 .45 and this gun might fit the bill.

It is a very good price on a Colt, at least for my area. Depending on what you want, you might also find a Rock Island, Springfield GI, or Springfield Mil-Spec, or a Spartan STI for around the same price. Actually, the Rock Island would be less expensive.

I would jump all over that gun if you like it. I think that is a reasonable price for that model. You will be getting a much better gun used than the Rock Island mentioned above. The Rock Island will have poopy sights compared to the Colt.

The only thing I keep considering is if it's worth it or should I just get a new 1911 for 3 or 4 hundred more? I also can't find to much info on this gun. I guess I was hoping someone here would have had one or had experience with this model and could share any info (good or bad). to help with my decision.

I am a bit torn here. I am never one to pass up what might be a good deal, but with what used Colts are selling for these days, that price is almost too good. These shortened versions can be very fussy about functioning, often - as George Hill would put it - jamming like a rock band. I wonder if this is such a gun that they are trying to get rid of.

Sounds like a officer acp 3 1/2" I have one and it been very relieable. and accurate. Some have had a problem with the bushing breaking . Mine has never been a problem.Their are way to correct this. If worried . I would buy it as I like Colts . If you want a slighty smaller and lighter The Defender and New Agent are next ones down the line. Like I said I would buy if it hasn't be ground on with a dremal .

I held the agent the other day and didn't really like it..the sights are weird. Do you know when they stopped making the 80 series

I bought a new Colt a couple of years ago like this that was labeled Compact Model with a 3-1/2" barrel. I was having problems with some rounds FTFing, but eventually figured out it was the Wilson mags causing it. When I started using strictly Colt mags, only one occurrence!

This year, I did my CHL qual with it and it performed well!

I would buy another one!

Srs 80

Where I'm from that would be reasonable for that gun. (Sounds like 1991a1 compact model)? See left of slide. Its' a plain vanilla Officers' model with plastic trigger, MSH and mag catch. All of which can be drop in/replaced with little fuss.
I'd fall on it. Have owned three.
Cheers, TF

Colt has not stopped making the Series 80. The sights on the New Agent take some getting used to but don't over think it, they do work.
That also sounds like a pretty good price on a Colt.
