Anyone shoot the Colt 49 Pocket Mdl? Is the little .31 good out say to 15 Yds? What loads are best? I have other CB Revs. but have been looking at this
Should I Pass or purchase?

What answer did you expect.

Like asking a bunch of muslim who their favorite Phophet is.

Purchase or pass... Not on this group.
by all means PURCHASE.

You might not like it as much as some other pistols. Might like it more. Will never know till you buy it and find out.

I usually justify it by convincing arguments like.
It will use less powder per shot.
I will get more balls per pound being a smaller projectile.
small bullets = higher velocity

Of course I forget to mention that I'll need another mold and another size of wad and .......

But I have a standard list of excuses for a larger size bore too.
Use at your discression:
I won't have to spend as much time casting a pound of big bullets.
Larger powder charge make is safer because I can down load and still enjoy it.
I will be able to take game with only one shot rather than mulitple.
Big bullets = big muzzle energy

Is it "good" out to 15 yards? Oh yeah, it'll shoot that far -- and more. Whether or not it's accurate ... depends. I own a few. One is a 1849 Uberti, with maybe 3" barrel (?) and this is the most accurate, but it's not a tack shooter. In fact I rarly shoot it at THAT distance.
The second is a Uberti...I think it's called the Wells Fargo. It has no loading lever and the bolt holes are oval. To load you disassemble the revolver. It's similar in accuracy to the 1st Uberti.
Then I have an 1849 Colt with 5" barrel that I got a LONG time ago made by Armi San Marco. It is not accurate at all, but it does hit the target.
I have a Remington .31 brass frame that's ASM, and that's not too accurate -- about like the ASM I noted above. I also have a steel frame version of this Rem. made by Pietta. It is, however, a pretty new gun and I haven't been able to shoot it yet.
The instructions about loads are given with the revolver. I usually only load about 12 grains at MOST in mine.
These are fun little guns, even though I believe they're not as accurate as the .36 cal revolvers (those I have found are pretty good with accuracy -- esp. the Uberti & Pietta) They were originally intended to be close quarters guns for personal defense, so expecting them to be really accurate may be expecting too much.
I say, stay with Uberti or Pietta. Palmetto makes some of these but you're taking a big gamble with your $$ on them when those two prior makers have a better reputation.
Go ahead. If you don't expect great accuracy, but just want some informal fun, they're great!

You might even consider an original. There were a whole bunch of them made, and it is one of the few Colts that is still reasonably affordable. They are just as good as a Colt DA or S&W in .32 S&W Long. In other words, no something I would choose for self defense, but better than throwing bean bags.

Thanks TommyGunn a very complete report on the little gun. You have given me a real good idea on this little pea shooter. I will order one now knowing what to expect.
No, I don't want one for SD carry. For that its a .45ACP in town, in the back country its an Ole 29 .44 Mag or a .45 LAR Grizzley.
