A colt 733 parts kit came across my local gun trading pages and its got me very intrigued, especially because I think it is a good price.

I want to double check my understanding for the process, because if I went this route it would be kind of backwards (acquiring upper first, lower later). I understand would be creating a trust and then filling out a form 1 with a future receiver. Since I need to get the receiver before filling out the form, what is a good way to avoid the "constructive possession." I don't own any other ar-15 receivers. Would it be easier to buy a pistol lower first and go from there?

What are good sources of receivers? Should I go with a commercial colt or a replica m16A1 lower like the NoDak spud retro receivers?

Anything else I should know about these 733s? Is this too advanced for a first time NFA owner? I'm just pretty stoked from a collection point of view.

Thanks for helping a noob.

Buy an AR lower receiver. Do not assemble as an SBR until you have your stamp. Do not buy or have a shoulder stock if this is your only AR style firearm.

There is no such thing a "pistol lower".........it's just a lower receiver until built out as a rifle or handgun. On the 4473, the dealer will transfer it as an "Other Firearm".

There are literally a thousand places selling essentially the same thing. I highly recommend Aero Precision, they are the actual manufacturer for many of the lowers that are sold with other companies names on them.

They are loud.

Nope, it's step one. Step two is getting a suppressor.;)

Thanks for the help in this NFA forum so far. Now that I've done some research I'm about 99% gonna get the kit. Do you think $785 is a good price? Its hard to say, since sometimes when I look around it seems like a great price for the whole parts kit, but then its a really depressed market at the moment. Buying for personal use but want a good deal that will appreciate over time. The kit is all original (minus the FA receiver obviously). Thanks for your help.
