I need information on this Colt Pistol.

colta1.jpg

Colt M1991A1, American Eagle 45, series 80, Rosewood grips, gold inlay eagle wings, solid silver eagle head. manufactured in 1993.
The gun guides and google have not been very helpful. I need to know what this thing is worth. It come with a letter from "united states historical society antique arms committee". Any help would be appreciated.

That is the only link I have found for this make model. The price there is from 1993 at $1995. What is the sale value of this Colt now in 2011? Would it sale for $3000 plus? What is the market price today?

A value for insurance purposes is one thing but an actual value for selling purposes is another.

Commemoratives or special edition pistols such as yours do not carry much if any resale value. They do not apprecieate because they were/are built soley for "display" and therefore do not have any "useful provinence" that most gun collectors cherish. They are very difficult to find buyers for due to the subject matter for the edition and the organization the commissioned it. You have to find a person that is interested in both enough to want that particular edition pistol. Typically they sell for signifigantly less than people paid new and sometimes less than a standard pistol.

$2000 is a good start for insurance value. If your actually trying to find a buyer, then your guess is as good as mine.

There are currently two American Eagles on GunsAmerica, one asking $1550, the other $1800
