As part of my effort to upgrade my safe, I'd like to get a quality 9mm 1911.

I have a Star Super B which is pretty nice: good trigger, decent bluing, okay grips. It shoots fine.

But I'd like to get something "better."

Have done some research and the Combat Commander (all steel, this will not be a carry gun) seems to win out among the Springfields, Kimbers, Rock Islands, but I'm not sure. I want value for money and have always had good suggestions from the folks here.

I'm looking to spend about $700 and want a more than standard 1911 sights (old eyes). Looking for the 9mm 1911 equivalent to a Sig 226 or BHP (both of which I have).

New or used doesn't make a difference...just looking for great value as I'll be selling three guns to buy the next one (Star Super B, Star 30 PK, and S&W SD9VE).

The Colt 1991 Commander in 9mm will probably be my next 1911. I have one in .45 in addition to Government Models in both .45 and 9mm. They are good quality basic 1911s at a reasonable price.

Nearest Colt I have to that is a Lightweight Commander in .38 Super with a 9mm. barrel assembly. Use to have the same set-up in several Combat Commanders over the years but always wanted something a bit lighter in for CCW. It's a great gun in either caliber and a lot of fun to shoot.

They are too big for the round, but otherwise the 9mm Combat Commander is a fine gun; mine has an impeccable record, no problems at all in a goodly amount of firing.
