I am looking to save up and purchase this pistol over the next few months. It is one heck of a nice looking pistol. Do any of you have any experience with this gun? What's the trigger like? Fit and finish? Anything you can tell me would be helpful. In the same price range, will I find a better 1911 with the same features? Thanks!

The one's I have handled have been nice. They are a good looking pistol and the fitting seems pretty good for a production pistol made on CNC machines. The triggers are good. They are crisp and have a great trigger pull. They are not Colt custom shop good but they are combat accurate and I believe they will be good accurate shooters. I personally wish it came with night sites.

My Colt dealer who moves a lot of Colts believes the Combat Elite & the Colt Rail, not to my taste, are the best offerings from Colt in years.

Look at the Dan Wesson Heritage line guns. They can be had for about $1100 which depending on your area and your market might or might not be a lot more than the Colt.

Everybody has an opinion of what's better, but in mine you won't find a better Govt Model for the $$$. I paid well under $1000.00 out the door for mine.

All COLTs have a forged frame and slide. All COLTs only use 3 MIM parts which is the fewest of any production mfgr. The Combat Elite has a National Mach barrel and bushing (mine is fit very tight), Real Novak sights, Smith and Alexander beavertail grip safety. It uses the standard COLT XSE lightweight alum trigger, bar stock rowl hammer and extended (strong side) safety lever. A COLT is built for a lifetime of use.

I have had my Combat Elite for about a year and a half. The trigger is 5lbs even and breaks as clean as any production gun should. Fit and finish is pretty nice. COLT has been leaving the roll marks on their slides standing "proud", which some people like and some people don't.... I personally don't care one way or the other. The blue on the slide is very dark almost black and very business like. The top "round" of the slide is matte/bead blasted blue as not to reflect light on the sights. The finish machine marks on the stainless frame are even and contrast with the slide very nicely. All the round's on the frame are also bead blasted. The only complaint I have with mine is the lower bout/edge of the slide is very sharp... I think you could shave with it.

It's accurate. I can shoot one hole groups at 7yrds and 15yrds all day long. Under 2" at 25yrds - if I do my part. Just for fun last month I had the CE out with some friends shooting on their farm. Everyone loved it and commented on how accurate it was. I got more comments on the CE than my Les Baer PII... I guess everyone expected the LB to be great (and it is).... No one expected the COLT to be even close.

It's reliable. I have had only 1 malf using the supplied COLT 8rnd mags (in the first 50rnds) and NONE using random Wislon 47D's from my collection. Heck I didn't even lube it the first time I went to the range... stopped by the range on my way home from the gun show where I bought it... Shot a hundred rounds (WWB) out of the stock mags with only the 1 malf. I'm up over 800rnds thru it as of today. Mostly my hand loades. Missouri Bullet's 185gr LSWC's over 5.6gr Winchester 231. I have fired 150rnds of my carry ammo (Remington Golden Saber) thru it in one range session without a problem.

Mine is a great gun. I recommend the Combat Elite to everyone who is willing to spend up to $1000 on a Government Model. Buy one, You'll like it.

Agree with the above, it's a very good pistol and hard to beat for < $1K.
