I've seen a Colt Series 80 Commander .45 ACP being advertised locally. It has a bright nickel finish.

I've seen nickel Series 80 Commanders before, but they were the dull "electroless" nickel finish. I've also seen Series 70 in bright nickel.

Can someone help me out? Did Colt make bright nickel Series 80 Commanders, or is this an aftermarket finish? The current owner doesn't know, and no box is available.

The gun looks nice, the price is right, and I'll buy it if someone can tell me it's factory finished. Thanks. S-52

It might be bright stainless rather than nickel. Colt has supplied this finish on many of their pistols.

If the prices is right and the finish looks good I would buy it whether it was a factory finish or not............

MikeJ and HSmith, thanks for the help.

Mike, when I handle the gun I will determine tell if it's stainless steel. It will be a plus if it is.

HSmith, I was thinking the same thing. I've just about decided to buy it either way, but if it is aftermarket nickel I may be able to dicker the price a bit.

Still looking for anyone who can tell me for sure if Colt made the Series 80 Commanders in bright nickel. Thanks again. S-52.

Well, I bought the gun last week. Still can't tell if it's an original bright nickel finish or aftermarket - but it's a good plating job. I'll see how the gun shoots over the holiday.
