Whats the difference in size between the Colt Detective and Smith K frame snubbies?

Not a whole lot.
The Smith K-frame is larger, but not by much. They'll both use the same speedloaders.

I LOVE the d-frame Colt but I have to tell you that for most people, a 50's or 60's K frame snub is a better choice.
Why?
While the chances of needing repair is slim, a S&W is a lot easier to find parts and a gunsmith.
In addition, the Colt trigger is unique in that it "stacks".
The Smith does not. Most people are more comfortable with the feel of the S&W trigger.
In the name of full disclosure, I have a Diamondback snub on my hip as I write this.

I more or less agree with Guillermo. By way of discloser, I have a Colt Detective but I don't have a S&W K frame snubbie. I do have K frames with longer barrels.

I've owned a model 10 snub. I'm picking up my first Detective special in a couple weeks.
I have both of these snub's. The DS is a bit smaller and lighter than the Model 10 but not much of difference in specs. They do have a bit different feel and action. I've owned the DS longer and just picked up the Model 10 a few months ago. Like both guns. Still on the lookout for a early model DS in very good to excellent at a reasonable price.

I have one of each. The K is large enough that I would not want to pocket carry it. However, I have pocketed a Colt D comfortably a lot.

And the ejector rod on the Colt DS is longer than on a 2" Smith, so it will actually work to eject the spent cases better.

Like unspellable, I have some Ks w longer barrels and have compared them to the D Frames.
If memory serves, the height is a little taller on the K but the length is very close.
I wouldn't want to carry either one in a pants pocket. Even my ratty old Cobra.

Not necessarily, mine for exampe don't. What happens is the the two leaf "V" mainspring comes together before the hammer rotates its full travel. This can be corrected. Some try "reforming" or bending the spring, but there are better ways. DO NOT EVER TRY TO REFORM A PRE-WAR/EARLY POST-WAR
MAINSPRING BECAUSE IT WILL LIKELY BREAK!
Some also mistake the early release of the cylinder bolt rubbing on the cylinder to be trigger stacking. Of course it isn't.

I have both.
A 1972 2" DS
A 1973 K frame model 15 S&W 2" adjustable sights (yes, the 2" adjustable sight model 15 is quite rare)
I like both, but the K frame Smith is better. It's easy to get hits @ 100 yards on the iron silhouettes.
Not so easy w/ the DS.

All the Colt stacking is not due to the V mainspring, it is an inherent part of any spring compression. In a DA revolver that takes place when the trigger engages the hammer strut to force the hammer back.
The S&W mechanism uses a trigger-hammer cam entirely separate from the hammer strut (sear) to effect the last part of the hammer movement. That cam has a different mechanical advantage to make up for the spring compression, so it prevents an S&W trigger from stacking.

The 3rd gen DS is just as accurate, or more accurate than the K. The heavy barrel made for lower sights, thus harder to I'm at distance. Heck, those sights are low enough to be hard to pick up close.
A 1st gen, with the pencil barrel and th 1/2 moon sight is a joy to shoot at distance.

I've got a 1950 DS in 95%+ condition. It shoots better than it has any right too. Pocket Carries like a J shoots like a K. These older ones don't have the longer ejection rods, though.
In the end, I'm just not a Colt guy. It's a shame to waste a work of art on a savage, like me.
