Does anyone know where I can find any of these old style Colt Extended Grip Safeties?

For my hand these are the best feeling grip safties ever made.
I am looking for both Commander and Government ones.

Should have asked me about 10 years ago. :)
I had one of those on my "enhanced" Combat Commander and filed it down to the normal contour becuase it pinched my hand when I shot it.
Have you contacted Colt? Either that, or your local 1911 smith. I like arched mainspring housings with the lanyard loop and stock short metal triggers and have to get them from him as they dont, for the most part, sell them that way anymore. He usually has "stock" parts he removed from cutomers guns when replacing them during "soup up" jobs.

Good luck! I got one in my parts drawer that I picked up at a show years ago. It's going on my Commander when I get around to putting a spur hammer on it. I had a Gold Cup Commander that came from the factory with one on it also. Only other one like it I've seen. I called Colt a couple years ago about them. No luck.

Majic...huh?

There are very few 1911's offered nowadays without a beavertail...the upswept, memory bump-like version seems to dominate the market...and are on all my 1911's. Dan wesson, Kimber, S&W, and new Colts have them, as do products from Wilson, Brown, etc.
They get your hand higher, closer to the bore, to help control recoil. The 'bump' helps to make sure the safety is deactivated.
I like the feel.....and function.....
but each to their own I guess.

Jercamp,
The true beavertail is the wide downward swept grip safety. It got it's name because it looks like a beaver's tail. No one uses this style anymore. Only the upswept models are on the market today.

Yeah, what I am looking for is the original Colt "beavertail".

Personally I think the new-fangled-fad-style grip safties should be called a "DuckButt" safty because that's what they look like to me.

I have NEVER had any problem with depressing a standard old fashioned 1911 safety so I can't stand the "bump". But I am very glad they are available for those who need them.

call Shapel's gunshop in Boise, ID

I was pawing through their parts bin a couple weeks ago and they had a few for sale. Along with a couple original 1911 (notA1) bits for those interested.
