Colt LE M4 AR-15 Serial Number Database

I recently acquired a Colt M4 AR-15 and would like to know the approximate year of manufacture. I tried the serial number look up on the Colt website but no joy. It is an LE model without any words that say "restricted". The serial number is LE5036XX. Is there a database with these LE numbers? Many thanks.

Did you try it without the LE at the beginning? Ive had to leave off pre and suffixes before to get their lookup tool to work.

I seriously doubt anyone besides Colt has such info. You could always call them. The worst they could say is no.

I'm kinda curious about why the big mystery over serial numbers. Were some of those guns left behind in sensitive nations or something? Or "donated" to nefarious groups in wherever? Mexico comes to mind.

I have the same curiosity about the closed (I believe by statute) stolen gun registry. Seems to me releasing stolen gun numbers would discourage traffic in stolen guns --and much of the motivation for stealing guns in the first place as well.

Ah, but that's just little old me, not a lawmaker.

More worrisome is the possibility that the act of searching the database triggers a flag for certain serial numbers.....

Yes I did try without using the LE.............................no joy either.

I just talked to Customer Service at Colt and they tell me that it, (the 6920 lower receiver), was manufactured in July, 2016. The lower receiver serial number is all that they have information on.
