The new round for the 1909 would work in the SAA but due to a larger rim only every other chamber could be loaded with them. The SAMMI spec rounds will work in both guns but sometimes the less wide rims will slip past the extractor on the 1909Cool. So, I wonder if that is the basis for current SAAMI spec for 45 Colt, explaining why there is a proper rim to the cartridge nowadays?
