I recently acquired this 4" matte stainless Python. I removed the Colt(Hogue made)factory grips and replaced these with some Ebony wood grips that look great and fit nicely. See what you might think of this Python?:
I don't know if Colt made any generation II stocks out of ebony but those grips do look as though they belong to the Python. The proper wooden grips should be generation III. Being stainless the Hogues may have been original to the python. I understand that some stainless Pythons had Pachmyer grips and others had Hogue grips. You do have a fine looking Python there, please enjoy it.
1)You are correct that Colt did not make any generation II stocks out of Ebony Wood. I just wanted to dress this Python up with these quality made stocks!
2)You are also correct that generation III target stocks would be more appropriate for this newer production Python. However, I was unable to find any quality Ebony Wood target stocks made in the generation III style. Besides, I liked the looks of the generation II target stocks!
3)My Python came with the Colt marked(Hogue made)rubber grips-instead of the Pachmayer Rubbers. I removed these to put them away to keep them in good condition because they came originally from Colt with these now hard to find grips!
