I hope this is OK to post here. Becasue of dire financial conditions, I have to sell my Colt Python. It has a 6" barrel and a factory tuned action. It has the blue finish. I beleive it was made in 1986. I have the origional box, case, and Bianchii holster, plus some ammo. It is in mint condition. Can you give me any idea what it's worth? Thanks

Pictures are worth a thousand dollars, I mean words.
The words Mint condition and holster included don't always mix well.
Did you buy a holster to go with the gun and never used it ?
Is there any signs of blueing wear around the muzzle or any high points due to the holster ?
Is the original box marked that the gun was tuned through Colts custom shop ?
Does the gun still wear it's factory correct target stocks/grips ?
This will all help determine the value.
Sorry to hear that you need to sell it due to financial trouble.
Good luck with all of that.

Prices vary significantly across the country. $850 to $1900 depending on condition, variation, and original accessories.

On-line sellers and gunshow vendors are asking for sometimes outrageous prices vs. what a person might find hunting in pawnshops or making private (face to face) buys.

I'd say that a good average for what you describe would be $1100.

If it is truly mint (minimal/faint turn line on cylinder; no dings, scratches, or finish wear; perfect factory wood grips; mechanically perfect) plus all accessories...you could probably ask for and get several hundred dollars more...

Dont sell unless you absolutlly have to. If you sell put a price of $1500.00 on it, someone will buy it.

Been gone a couple of days. I have the origional box, marked Factory Tuned Action. I have a holster, but never used it. No wear, mint, with the factory grips.

from the blue book of gun values in 100% =950.00 98% 850.00 95% 700.00
this is from the twenty sixth edition. but you can ask what ever you want.

SGR: Based upon your enhanced description, I'll agree with other posters and revise estimate up to $1400-$1500 range. Pythons are "hot". Someone will pay if you are patient.

If you need a quick sale...go with a lower asking price ($1190-$1290). Start high and have a pre-planned price reduction you would be comfortable with.

Good Luck.

Pythons are hot right now. I wouldn't take less than $1500 for mint, in the box, factory tuned example.

I'd also NOT include the holster and ammo with the sale. GUNKWAZY made a good point, selling it with those extras emphasizes use and will lower the price. You can always sell them separately after you sell the gun.

Sorry to hear of your trouble (been there) and good luck with the sale.

Fjestads book is a good reference point, but it isn't absolute. If I see a $950.00 Python in mint condition, I would pawn as many guns as I would need to buy it right that second, as that is a really, really, really good price for a mint python.

I passed up a Python a few years ago that was in the best condition I have ever seen from a used gun (looked better than new, really), and while it wasn't exactly a bargain, I still kick myself for not going into debt for a little while in order to buy it. As I recall, I would have had to plunk down about $800 bucks or so.

I saw a blued one in the local classifieds, "mint in box, only fired 25 rounds" according to owner, 80's mfg, sold for $750.00. I called after it had sold, but the owner told me it took two weeks to sell it at that price and that he had also taken it to a gun show w/o success.

Feel free to toss out the Blue Book on a lot of Colt's.
If you are selling based on Blue book prices, you are missing out.
I'm just curious as I don't even own a Blue Book anymore.

What does the Blue Book show is the value of a 1989 Snake Eyes set ?

What does the Blue book show is the value of a Combat Cobra ?

What about a Colt Boa ?

What about a Nickel plated Combat Python ?

A nickel plated .22 snub nosed Diamondback perhaps ?

That wouldn't have lasted 2 days around here. I happen to know a guy around here that is a serious Colt man, and he looks at the classified ads daily.

Just saw another one at a local shop. 6" with, guessing, 98% blue remaining. Did not inspect it closely, but it looked through the glass. $799.00
Maybe I'll buy it instead of a 1911.

Our local economy is in the crapper, perhaps that is why they are priced reasonable, nobody will pay anything for a gun right now.

I think you maybe right... even classic cars are being sold for deals as those who bought too much when times were good are now trying to support their lavish homes and such when the bonuses are no longer rolling in.

The problem with a crappy economy (aka recession) is that things are only cheap for a while before inflation hits and then things begin to cost more.

:)

I bought my 95% for $750 about 6 months ago. It was listed on the board for exactly 7 minutes. I was 9th in line to buy it, but it was sold to me because I lived 30 miles away, and everyone else 500+.
