Going rate for Colt Python

That's about $1K off.

Closer to 2K around here.

I see a lot people who say "they're not worth it" or "I wouldn't pay that much."

Well, it doesn't matter if they're "worth it" or not, that's what they're bringing. Doesn't matter that I won't pay it either. The guy behind me, will, apparently.

The shop you bought that DDR police Luger at has blued short-barreled one for $3999.

Grips, I need grips! :)

That is true, they will pay! I always felt it is a nicely finished 357. The fact it is an orphan adds to desire I guess.

I always preferred my cobra as a shooter and now those are climbing as well. When I get a python, it is an easy flip. Financing several FA, a couple high end sigs etc. my next will flip towards a korth that I got my eye on.

The Walking Dead did for the Python what Dirty Harry did for the Model 29. The only difference is the Python isn't made anymore. And mine is NOT for sale.

Yea, I saw that gun yesterday. It's a beauty. I didn't look at it close, but I thought the tag was $3299.00. Good thing I got new glasses coming. :D Not that it would have mattered to me. Even if I wanted a Python, I couldn't afford one.

And to tell you the truth, I would love to have one if for no other reason than I just like the way they look. Always have.

I paid $262.00, new, in 1973. It's a 6" nickel plated gun. It was my duty gun and it has been fired. I've told my wife to place the gun in my casket when I go. I"ll be needing it where I'm going.

Get a Colt Trooper III. With a Trooper Mk V barrel!

Seriously, out of the box my strange hybrid has a very sweet trigger, and my other pristine example has Wolff trigger and hammer springs. Extremely exquisite. I cannot imagine a Python being any more accurate and me recognizing it.

Exactly, the market says they are worth what they are selling for.

Lowest price I've seen for one is $1550, and I watched a guy trade an m70 and a 44 mag for it.

My future dream revolver is a 6" Python. Guess I'd better forget about a Master's.

A Beautiful gun to look at and keep in the safe just to bring out now and then to drool over but over rated for any kind of hard use. I speak from experience I had one. But like I said they sure are pretty. A true collectors idem.

The Gen III Trooper has a modernized action which is easier to assemble, time and service than the older Python lockwork. If you want a super nice Trooper (by that I mean the action), the first generation has the identical lockwork as the Python's. The frames are the same size but because of the way the frame has been cut, you can't put an older Python barrel (older Pythons had a tapered shank and the later production a straight shank) onto the Trooper without it looking funny. I know because I considered the project at one time.

+1. My 1965 Trooper action is as good or better than my Python.

That might be good advice if one simply wants a 357 to shoot. But I suspect the majority of people who are paying 2000, 3000, and up for a Python, aren't buying them just to have a 357 to shoot. They want a PYTHON. Anything else isn't a Python.

Something else might be a better gun, I don't pretend to know, but if I want a Python, nothing else will scratch that itch.

That gun has same specs as the one inscribed 'Presented To IAN FLEMING By: COLT'S Patent Firearms MFG. Co'. That one sold at Bonhams in 2007 for £12,000.

The most expensive Colt Python transaction I actually witnessed was one in a local gun shop. The gun itself was exceptionally clean with a very faint cylinder line. It was a 4" less any box or anything else. The gun sat there a few weeks ad a guy came in and met the asking price of $2,000 and that was maybe two years ago or maybe a year and a half. The buyer had no qualms plopping down his two grand and everyone was happy.

Haven't been keeping track of prices lately, but I know the one I have is not for sale. Its a fine shooter and been shot and carried a plenty.

The last 6"blue I bought was 3 years ago. It was a 98% gun. I paid $895 for it in a gun shop. Today, I would snatch up another one like it if it were $1600-$1800. Similar guns at my local shows now have $2000 to $2400 price tags on them. I don't recall ever seeing someone buy one, though.

I have a MK III with a vent rib barrel. Mine has MK III on the barrel, though. The gun is accurate. The trigger is awful.

Interesting. So now I'm curious, why my second Mk III has a good trigger. No idea how many owners it has been through. Well, regardless both my Troopers are pretty sweet (for very low $).
