I just bought a book on ebay for $10, COLT BLACKPOWDER REPRODUCTIONS & REPLICAS, A COLLECTOR'S & SHOOTER'S GUIDE by Dennis Adler. (Lee, you were right - there's some pretty good stuff in it).
The question of whether a Colt Colt is better than a Uberti or Pietta pops up occasionally - this book gives some insight. Adler takes you through the history of the Colt repros, how they're made, when they were made, why they were made, and who made them. He also covers the Ubertis, Piettas and Rugers. He explains the manufacturing differences between Colts and Ubertis/Piettas (he never dumps on the Ubertis or Piettas, but does say that you get what you pay for). He even shows pics of Colts next to Ubertis and Piettas so you can see the differences.
Loading and cleaning are covered briefly.
Not a bad book if anyone is interested in seeing the differences in these guns, or if you need info on serial numbers, models, etc.

Yup, I've had a copy for years, and highly recommend it. However it is a bit dated in that both Italian companies made some corrections in their products since the book was published. This is particularly true of Uberti. As part of the Beretta empire they were funded to update tooling.

I haven't read it yet and keep watching ebay for it. Its usually over 25 with postage. I'm just playing Cheap Charlie and waiting for a steal.

But from what I have read about conversions is that the CW weapons could have been a lot better had not certain companies sat on patents.

I have the same book and highly recomend it. It was interesting in the fact I diid not know Remington was still converting some of their revolvers into the 1880's. In the book it states that Remington's conversions came from the factory with both cylinders so if couldn't find any cartridges you could put the cap and ball cylinder in and use it that way. You can do the same with todays Remingtons if you buy a conversion cylinder.
