I need a little help from the well informed members of the forum. I'm in the process of acquiring the title gun (In beautiful shape!). I have always been a fan of the 22 WMR round.

Can a production 22 LR be converted to a 22 WMR with the addition of a barrel and cylinder (Of course by a qualified gunsmith)? Any other parts required? I made the assumption that the hammer for a 22 LR rimfire would also work with a 22 WMR rimfire.

Thanks
Mike

I happen to like the Colt Trooper MkIIIs. I have a 4" and an 8" in .22LR as well as matching .357s. There were some Troopers made in .22 mag. I haven't checked, but, there may possible to ream the existing cylinder. I am sure some resident gunsmiths will weigh in. But, if it were me, I'd just leave it alone and enjoy it in .22 LR and look for a S&W M-48 to satisfy the rimfire magnum revolver itch. YMMV.

Troopers in .22 lr are very collectible. Ain't no way I would butcher one....It would be cheaper in the long run to buy a magnum and sell the LR than to try and do a conversation.

No way would I modify any Colt revolver,,,
It would be like finding a cherry 55 T-Bird and chopping it.

They ain't making any of these guns anymore,,,
When the Colt collectors buy up all of the snake guns,,,
The "lowly" Troopers and Trooper Mk's are only going to appreciate in price.

I have a pristine 6" Trooper Mk-III in my safe,,,
When I saw what was happening to the Colt revolver prices,,,
I cleaned it up, oiled it up real good, and put it in the very back of my safe.

But, if you buy one it will be your gun,,,
Do with it what you will.

Agreed.
About 30 years ago I traded mine (LNIB) for a Colt Government .380, which is still in my safe (LNIB also). I like the .380, but suuure do wish I still had the .22 Trooper.

I would leave the 22LR Trooper Mark III alone and just get a Trooper Mark III in 22 mag. They typically cost a bit more, I have an 8" nickel in 22 mag I'll be selling in the next few months.
