Okay, a few years ago I saw a Colt Trooper Mk III 4" in about 95% condition for $450.
Today I came upon not one, but 2 blued Mk IIIs with 4" barrels priced at $479 and $489. Both wore Colt's original walnut stocks.
The $479 example is in about 85% condition, with moderate holster wear on the muzzle and some wear around the front of the cylinder. The $489 is in about 90% wear wise, with a cracked right stock (the bluing is in better shape than the other Mk III).
My only concern is that the $479 gun did exhibit some end shake. I'd estimate .002 to .004. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and couldn't check it precisely, nor did I have time to inspect the other Colt.
I am not familiar with Colts, but I know with most of their designs, endshake - any at all - is not good. I don't recall if this is such a big issue with the Mk III design or not ... please advise.
I found these guns at the other end of my home state while on the road, and they are a good hours drive behind me. I probably won't go back, but just wanted to check in hear others thoughts. I've always greatly respected Colts, but I've just never really been much into them.
These do seem to be good prices. Some of the guns in this shop did seem to be a bit overpriced, so that always gives me pause, like a 4" S&W Model 66 for $650 and 4" heavy barrel Model 10s for $400. He had a mess of Colt Pythons for $1300 to $1700, depending on the condition, which is about right for the Python market.
